Historia
Anthony Fauci is arguably the most famous–and most revered–doctor in the world today. His role guiding America sanely and calmly through Covid (and through the torrents of Trump) earned him the trust of millions during one of the most terrifying periods in modern American history, but this was only the most recent of the global epidemics in which Dr. Fauci played a major role. His crucial role in researching HIV and bringing AIDS into sympathetic public view and his leadership in navigating the Ebola, SARS, West Nile, and anthrax crises, make him truly an American hero.

Wonderful insiders view of our past health crises
Revisado: 01-13-25
I lived through these crises, but wasn’t aware of the depths and intricacies of the administration that interplay with individuals that diseases affected. I was less aware of Ebola, which could’ve been much much worse than it was. The retelling of anthrax and aids made my heart hurt. All of the hard work that Fauci did interspersed with his personal relationships was a joy to behold. The end of the book re-examined COVID-19. I hadn’t realized how much I had forgotten about that horrible time in the history of humankind. His descriptions of researching Covid, and Trump’s inability to understand anything about Healthcare brought back new fear regarding impending pandemics. A great read.

Historia
The Founding Fathers tried to protect us from the threat they knew, the tyranny that overcame ancient democracy. Today, our political order faces new threats, not unlike the totalitarianism of the twentieth century. We are no wiser than the Europeans who saw democracy yield to fascism, Nazism, or communism. Our one advantage is that we might learn from their experience.

Extremely relevant for today
Revisado: 11-23-24
This book was written back when Trump won his first term in office. All of the issues and ideas that were occurred then are compounded today. Donald Trump is a fascist by every definition of the word. This book outlines how you define fascism as well as some things, the every day person Can do to try and fight against a fascist. I fail to believe that the American people want this fascist. I have to believe that the American people who voted for Donald Trump again were blinded by the economic struggle following Covid and did not recognize that they were giving up, their freedom for the promise of a possible economic resiliency. This book created a lot of fear in me regarding the future, but helped motivate me to do what I can to provide the freedom and the promise of America for future generations.

Historia
Combining historical research with an in-depth analysis of our modern political landscape, Erasing History issues a dire warning for America and the world: the worst fascist movements of humanity’s past began in schools; the same place so many of today’s right-wing political parties have trained their most vicious attacks. Yale professor Jason Stanley exposes the true danger of the right’s tactics and traces their inspirations and funding back to some of the most dangerous ideas of human history.

I learned a lot about the histories of peoples that I was unaware of. Cemented my concerns about the right wing destruction of our own history. And enjoyable listen.

Historia
New Year's Day is a time for new beginnings, but Minneapolis homicide detectives Sam Kovac and Nikki Liska are focused on endings: specifically, the tragic end of their latest murder victim, an unidentified young woman discovered on the side of the freeway. Believed to be the victim of a serial killer, Kovac and Liska are determined to do the girl the small justice of returning her body to her family as they investigate her case, but it is no simple task matching the broken corpse to any of the scores of missing persons reports.

Historia
Employing a unique combination of psychology, philosophy, sociology, and dog training theory, Vicki Hearne recounts her experiences with Bandit, a dog deemed so dangerous that the state of Connecticut condemned him to death. Hearne rescued Bandit and was soon entrenched in a legal battle that extended well beyond his case as she fought to prove that no dog is inherently vicious. She quickly discovered the factors that contributed to Bandit’s behavior and set about releasing the essentially “good dog”.

What disappointed you about Bandit?
about a court case that is 25 years old or more, and is a soapbox for the woman who wrote it. not worth the money.
