Historia
In present-day California, Eleanor Bennett’s death leaves behind a puzzling inheritance for her two children, Byron and Benny: a black cake, made from a family recipe with a long history, and a voice recording. In her message, Eleanor shares a tumultuous story about a headstrong young swimmer who escapes her island home under suspicion of murder. The heartbreaking tale Eleanor unfolds, the secrets she still holds back, and the mystery of a long-lost child challenge everything the siblings thought they knew about their lineage and themselves.

Historia
A debut of extraordinary distinction: through the trials of one unforgettable family, Ayana Mathis tells the story of the children of the Great Migration, a story of love and bitterness and the promise of a new America. In 1923, 15-year-old Hattie Shepherd flees Georgia and settles in Philadelphia, hoping for a chance at a better life. Instead, she marries a man who will bring her nothing but disappointment and watches helplessly as her firstborn twins succumb to an illness a few pennies could have prevented.

Amazing
Revisado: 07-02-23
The story was a twist of emotions and connections, but it left you wanting more and not wanting to put it down; You cried when they cry you laugh when they laughed you felt their pain. The narrator’s read the story with so much affirmation of the characters a must read.

Great
Revisado: 06-16-23
The book was touching and moving but just need more. I hate the ending but it comes to show a woman’s will and how sometimes we can be silenced and yet how powerful we can be you can see that in the mother-in-law.

Hold on tight

The story starts slow …… then it slows down a crawl through the middle and then it picks up and you’re racing through the last 10 chapters trying to get to the end. It’s an amazing book..
