Predictable in the extreme
Revisado: 04-30-25
I knew the end of the book when there was still over two hours left in the story. Up to a certain point, the story was a light and fun listen, but at a certain point the main character got a very plot convenient case of stupid that led to the inevitable ending. After that point, it was just boring.

Fun Story but Wooden Performance
Revisado: 04-28-25
The story is fun and the male performer does a good job. The female performer emotionless and wooden. I’ll probably just read the rest of the series.

Perpetual emasculation in the name of humor
Revisado: 03-20-25
The trope of wifey knowing best and undermining her husband to comic effect is funny when used sparingly. This author bludgeons the reader with it so often that it feels like a lazy cop out. After a while, the execution just got boring.

If I want their help I'll have to free each woman from her magic-induced exile. First, I have to find them.

So Much Potential :(
Revisado: 08-18-22
This story is an interesting premise and the general story is executed pretty well.
The reason that I rated the story as 1 star is the way the characters are handled. Often, someone steals from the MC or manipulates him into a bad situation and the author makes him out as the bad guy because he gets upset with them.
A common refrain throughout the story is that someone will wrong the MC. The MC will get justifiably angry and someone will tell him off for being rude. After that, the MC meekly apologizes to the person who wronged him and just take the abuse because he somehow deserved it since he got mad at being stolen from or undermined.
The frustrating part is that the premise and situations are interesting enough that it is still interesting. That and the excellent voice performance make this an engaging, if frustrating, listen.

Stupidly Repetitive
Revisado: 07-03-22
The first book was the story of a guy that got strong but was too weak to save the people he loves. Rinse and repeat for the subsequent books.
The mc seems to grow but he’s always the weak white knight who comes up short.

Historia
"Kill. Kill them all." It's the first four words Lars usually wakes up to every morning, a voice telling him she's just giving him a "quest" that will help him "level". But even if he wanted to do it, he can't. They're cultivators: beings with ancestral bloodlines that have powers he could only dream of, while he is stuck as a puny human. Even if he could kill them, the people who bullied him, beat him, treated him like a punch-bag pariah for being a "tailless worthless human", he wouldn't. That is, until a vicious group of murderous psychopaths called a "sect" descend on his village.

Pathetic MC And Inconsistent Development
Revisado: 06-14-22
I was really into the premise of this story: A main character that can’t grow the way everyone else can but with an alternative path to power.
The biggest let down was the MC himself. He exhibits a personality that is in defiance of the nature and nurture of the world. It is so bad that he goes out of his way to protect enemies while jeopardizing those who he professes to love because he refuses to get strong enough to save them.
I would recommend this book to people who like characters who are tentative, weak, and so committed to their principles that they endanger the people who love them.
