Historia
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

These stories are fantastic!
Revisado: 08-04-24
Reading (or in this case, ear-reading... 😁) Stephen King's stories, be them short or long, feels like slipping on an old, comfortable pair of favorite slippers. Every time I feel like I'm meeting up with an old friend who I haven't seen in a while, but whom I am so glad to connect with again. I love his prose, the way he slowly and smoothly takes me down the path to his house, then draws me in to meet his family. Each member of his family is special, and has a very interesting tale to tell, and I can't walk away without hearing the end of each one. Thank you for all of the pleasure!!!!

Historia
Maine, 1789: When the Kennebec River freezes, entombing a man in the ice, Martha Ballard is summoned to examine the body and determine cause of death. As a midwife and healer, she is privy to much of what goes on behind closed doors in Hallowell. Her diary is a record of every birth and death, crime and debacle that unfolds in the close-knit community. Months earlier, Martha documented the details of an alleged rape committed by two of the town’s most respected gentlemen—one of whom has now been found dead in the ice.

Remove the music!!!!
Revisado: 09-02-23
The story is very interesting and well written, but the music took all the pleasure away from the listening. I also did not really like the very slow pace of the reader, even though she did a remarkable job at all of the different voices. This should have been a 5 star review for the book and the story.

Hard to stick with it
Revisado: 02-07-21
I did not enjoy neither the story nor the narration. It was very repetitive, hard to develop an interest in, and I skipped through the last chapters very rapidly (thank you fast forward) just to see if the killer and the reasons for the murder were worth the time spent. I had the impression that I was listening to a story written (and read) for young teenagers.

Historia
On the surface, the Victorian age is one of propriety, industry, prudishness and piety. But scratch the surface and you’ll find scandal, sadism, sex, madness, malice and murder. Presented by Stephen Fry, this series delves deep into a period of time we think we know, to discover an altogether darker reality. The stories we’re told offer a different perspective on an era which underwent massive social change. As education, trade, technology and culture blossomed, why was there an undercurrent of the ‘forbidden’ festering beneath Victorian society?

Historia
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.
