Best Bible narrator I’ve heard .
Revisado: 04-11-25
It goes without saying that the word of God is the most precious book on earth. It comforts, refreshes, gives hope, wisdom, a transformed life on earth and promises eternity through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

The storyline was a new topic for me as to Americas eugenic programs .
Revisado: 03-22-25
Well, happy endings are always good. I thought the back-and-forth format between two time periods worked well. I am so glad I don’t have a Celine in my life. It is amazing to me. how someone can have so many blessings and be surrounded by beauty and those who try to love them and yet be such a miserable person that she has to destroy the lives of those around her.

Historia
Mount Mellyn stood as proud and magnificent as she had envisioned. But what about its master—Connan TreMellyn? Was Martha Leigh's new employer as romantic as his name sounded? As she approached the mansion towering above the cliffs of Cornwall, an odd chill of apprehension overcame her. TreMellyn's young daugher proved as spoiled and difficult as the three governesses before Martha had discovered. But it was the girl's father whose arrogant demeanor unleashed unfamiliar sensations and turmoil—even as whispers of past tragedy and present danger begin to insinuate themselves into her life.

Unbelievable story line. A mystery that could only be solved by the author whose ending was resolved by details not revealed in the book. A waste of my time.

It’s not the movie
Revisado: 03-30-24
Having been a fan of the movie by the same title, I expected to find the book as enjoyable. My past experiences have been that the book is usually better, not so this time. I have enjoyed all of Daphne Du Maurier’s books and movies. This time the movie won. The book version is probably more believable then the movie but I must say I love happy endings which the movie provided.

Historia
Britt-Marie can't stand mess. She eats dinner at precisely the right time and starts her day at six in the morning because only lunatics wake up later than that. And she is not passive-aggressive. Not in the least. It's just that sometimes people interpret her helpful suggestions as criticisms, which is certainly not her intention. But at 63, Britt-Marie has had enough. She finally walks out on her loveless 40-year marriage and finds a job in the only place she can: Borg, a small, derelict town devastated by the financial crisis.

So disappointed
Revisado: 12-03-18
This book started out delightful I was enjoying the book immensely. Then entered the use of the F word over and over and over again even by the delightful elderly lady. I don’t know about you but I don’t want my 94-year-old mother using the F word. I am so sick of people thinking that is entertaining. I never finished the book because of this.

Didn’t see the ending coming
Revisado: 03-31-18
I thought the plot and the storyline were well thought out and the people in the story even though complex were developed in a way that the author helped you come to know . I will perhaps never understand why Liz made the choice she did and cannot see myself making the same choice. Honesty is always, always best as the consequences of lies reverberates for such a long, long time and affects so many people. So the “heroine “ was the least understood by me. I regret that swearing, the “F” word especially (I am so very tired of the word and it’s overuse) and the taking of the Lords name in vain is necessary in books. I realize people do speak this way but for someone who does not use those words it detracts from the telling of a story and unnecessary to the what makes for a good book. I hesitate to move on to another book by the author for this reason.

The golden skies, the translucent twilight, the white nights all hold the promise of youth, of love, of eternal renewal. The war has not yet touched this city of fallen grandeur or the lives of two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha Metanova, who share a single room in a cramped apartment with their brother and parents. Their world is turned upside down when Hitler's armies attack Russia and begin their unstoppable blitz to Leningrad.

X rated historical fiction?
Revisado: 02-11-18
Terrible book with very little historical content . I grew totally weary of the explicit and continuous love making which dominated the book. Based on ratings and reviews I was looking forward to and kept anticipating a historical fiction book. Waste of a credit.
