Historia
Is it possible to write a sidesplitting novel about the breakup of the perfect marriage? If the writer is Nora Ephron, the answer is a resounding yes. For in this inspired confection of adultery, revenge, group therapy, and pot roast, the creator of Sleepless in Seattle reminds us that comedy depends on anguish as surely as a proper gravy depends on flour and butter.

Revenge is a dish best served cold
Revisado: 04-18-24
So terribly funny and human I loved the narration, the recipes inserted at the funniest times and the sheer smartness of the writing

Historia
In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites listeners into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her - from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work to her time spent at the world's most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it - in her own words and on her own terms.

Inspirational and hopeful
Revisado: 08-18-21
I loved listening to Michelle tell her story - the domestic detail of her upbringing ( her amazing parents had me in awe), the drive to succeed, the hidden alights of being a black girl in a white world.
I think this should be compulsory listening or reading for ALL! T

Historia
Raymond Jaffe feels like he doesn’t belong. Not with his mother’s new family. Not as a weekend guest with his father and his father’s wife. Not at school, where he’s an outcast. After his best friend moves away, Raymond has only two real connections: to the feral cat he’s tamed and to a blind ninety-two-year-old woman in his building who’s introduced herself with a curious question: Have you seen Luis Velez?

A wonderful and unlikely story ( like life)
Revisado: 11-13-20
A young unhappy boy ( saying sorry is his go to word) befriends an elderly lady who is looking for Luis Velez. Searching for Luis and caring for Mrs. G takes Raymond out of his small world and into a world where sad and terrible things happen but are also balanced by human kindness. I loved everything about this book.

Historia
Augusta Hope has never felt like she fits in. At six, she’s memorising the dictionary. At seven, she’s correcting her teachers. At eight, she spins the globe and picks her favourite country on the sound of its name: Burundi. And now that she's an adult, Augusta has no interest in the goings-on of the small town where she lives with her parents and her beloved twin sister, Julia. When an unspeakable tragedy upends everything in Augusta's life, she's propelled headfirst into the unknown.

Endless
Revisado: 08-15-20
Soooooo long - a good story amongst all the endless detail. I finished it but found myself irritated by the English story . The Burundian story was heartbreaking but not enough to keep the book going

Historia
Missy Carmichael is prickly, stubborn – and terribly lonely. Until a chance encounter in the park with two very different women opens the door to something new. Something wonderful. Missy was used to her small, solitary existence, listening to her footsteps echoing around the empty house, the tick-tick-tick of the watching clock. After all, she had made her life her way.

The old lady and the dog who tamed her
Revisado: 08-03-20
A thoroughly enjoyable “ read” - Missy is a lonely and crusty old woman who wears her sadness like a shield. Her story is told in the present and her past and you realize what has shaped her. It is through a dog Bobby that she meets friends and becomes part of a living group.
