Historia
In Shaker Heights, a placid, progressive suburb of Cleveland, everything is planned - from the layout of the winding roads to the colors of the houses to the successful lives its residents will go on to lead. And no one embodies this spirit more than Elena Richardson, whose guiding principle is playing by the rules. Enter Mia Warren - an enigmatic artist and single mother - who arrives in this idyllic bubble with her teenage daughter, Pearl, and rents a house from the Richardsons.

Fires burning within and without!
Revisado: 04-23-19
Emotional and heart wrenching story of choices that burn us and all who love us and surround us. I was touched deeply as an adoptive mother, daughter and sister and mesmerized by this artfully written novel! Highly recommend it!

Great women in the Great War!
Revisado: 04-18-19
As women continue to step forward in 2019 and claim their power, intelligence and capabilities in the world today, The Victory Garden describes the critical role women played so many years ago during WW1, ever reminding us of the consistently powerful presence of women throughout history! Historical fiction that weaves all of these topics into a novel well worth reading: love, family, war, loss, morality and community!

Historia
A single mother turns up dead at the bottom of the river that runs through town. Earlier in the summer, a vulnerable teenage girl met the same fate. They are not the first women lost to these dark waters, but their deaths disturb the river and its history, dredging up secrets long submerged. Left behind is a lonely 15-year-old girl. Parentless and friendless, she now finds herself in the care of her mother's sister, a fearful stranger who has been dragged back to the place she deliberately ran from - a place to which she vowed she'd never return.

Plot drowned in the end!
Revisado: 12-22-17
I was very disappointed in the lack of drama as the story wrapped up, virtually no surprises. The entire book simply fizzled out and I was left thinking “ho hum!” Structure was like her first book and I made the assumption this one would end with a significant plot twist...NOT!

Historia
When Helen MacDonald's father died suddenly on a London street, she was devastated. An experienced falconer captivated by hawks since childhood, she'd never before been tempted to train one of the most vicious predators: the goshawk. But in her grief, she saw that the goshawk's fierce and feral anger mirrored her own.

Enter the world of falconry
Revisado: 09-07-15
My love of birds was taken to new heights by Helen Macdonald. She introduced me to a whole new world as she described in magnificent, emotionally charged detail, what it is like to train these amazing creatures. And yet, in the end I found the human was the one who learned the true life lessons from the art of falconry, and this left me yearning to learn more!

Historia
An historic literary event: the publication of a newly discovered novel, the earliest known work from Harper Lee, the beloved, best-selling author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning classic To Kill a Mockingbird. Originally written in the mid-1950s, Go Set a Watchman was the novel Harper Lee first submitted to her publishers before To Kill a Mockingbird. Assumed to have been lost, the manuscript was discovered in late 2014.

Thank you, Harper Lee!
Revisado: 07-18-15
I found the Witherspoon performance empty, artificial and shallow, but the story had me struggling and feeling deep conflict from the outset. By the end of the book I was so completely immersed in the angst of Scout that I was drained and touched in a way that very few books are able to reach me. The concept of "killing" her in the manner in which it happened, and that being the purest form of her father's love for her, flooded me with emotions.

Historia
As medical director of the famed Preventive Medicine Research Institute, Lee Lipsenthal helped thousands of patients struggling with disease to overcome their fears of pain and death, and to embrace a more joyful way of living. In his own life, happily married and the proud father of two remarkable children, Lee was similarly committed to living his life fully and gratefully each day. The power of those beliefs was tested in July 2009, when Lee was diagnosed with esophageal cancer.

Life Altering 'Meal!'
Revisado: 03-25-13
Where does Enjoy Every Sandwich rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
At the very top of my list!
What did you like best about this story?
Dr. Lipsenthal was overwhelmingly real in how he told his story, no inflated ego or exaggerated drama, simply human responses exposed in the brightest of lights.
What does Lee Lipsenthal and Dean Ornish bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The emotions heard through their voices lend a sense of intimacy that written words alone could not possibly express.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Enjoy Every Sandwich...the meal of a lifetime!
Any additional comments?
I will listen to this book over and over again because of the value of Dr. Lipsenthal's message is not to be experienced once and then forgotten; it must become a part of my own journey.
