Historia
Norman MacLean spent the last 14 years of his life determined to sift through grief and controversy in search of the truth behind the Mann Gulch tragedy, one of the worst disasters in the history of the Forest Service. Young Men and Fire is the culmination of his investigations. It is a story about honor, death, compassion, and the human spirit.

Great book by a wonderful writer with absolutely horrid narration
Revisado: 01-07-25
Great story and the author is always great. I had to struggle to get through the book, though, because the narrating was so annoying.

Historia
Award-winning historian Michael Wallis has spent several years re-creating the rich, anecdotal saga of Billy the Kid (1859-1881), a deeply mythologized young man who became a legend in his own time and yet remains an enigma to this day. With the Gilded Age in full swing and the Industrial Revolution reshaping the American landscape, "the Kid", who was gunned down by Sheriff Pat Garrett in the New Mexico Territory at the age of 21, became a new breed of celebrity outlaw.

Great history book… loosely based around Billy’s life

Fantastic book on the history of the time of Billy the Kid. It was more so a book of the history of that era, with mentions of how Billy the Kid fit within that history, than a book ON Billy the Kid. I would not consider it a biography, but I really enjoyed it.

Historia
The summer of 1876 was a key time period in the development of the mythology of the Old West. Many individuals who are considered legends by modern listeners were involved in events that began their notoriety or turned out to be the most famous—or infamous—moments of their lives. Those individuals were Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer, Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, Wild Bill Hickok, and Jesse James. The Summer of 1876 weaves together the timelines of the events that made these men legends.

Fantastic

A huge fan of Chris Wimmer’s podcasts, I was excited for the release. Like how described in the epilogue/acknowledgments, I, too, knew a little bit about all of the events, characters, and history of 1876, but had not realized that all of it was happening at the same time. The first curveball thrown a few hundred miles, and a few months removed, from Little Bighorn!? Who knew! Amazing book. Great concept, even better writing.
