The ending was a bit confusing but getting there was fun. Character development has some issues but I recommend the book.

Revisado: 12-21-17
Perhaps I should have written about the first two in the series but what the hey. I recommend this as good entertainment. There are couple of issues, for example a love scene takes forever but overall it moves right along.

Truly A Fictional Story...No Value For Preppers
- De R.Bishop en 12-06-17
Not the best of the genre
Revisado: 12-21-17
The Perils of Pauline with plot holes. I like getting the boxed sets as there are many hours for a regular or reduce price. This one bit me on the, well you get the idea. At one point I realized that I had previously purchased the second of the set and at that point stopped listening. My bad. There were a couple of surprises but overall, in spite of the stupid mistakes the characters made, one knows how things will work out. No suspense and other than how fools can survive, it was predictable, plot holes not withstanding.

Historia
For years, exiles from North Korea, China, and Russia have terrorized the Western Seaboard of post-Outbreak America. And, for years, the remnants of the US military have struggled to defeat them. No more. After US forces cripple the enemy's ability to wage war, the North Koreans and their allies make a last-ditch effort to save themselves by building internment camps where thousands of Americans are held hostage. The enemy thinks they are invulnerable. They think they have the ultimate leverage. They are wrong.

Historia
In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place.... The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease.

Too long, formulaic, weird when you kind of expect it and dull too much of the story. Perhaps this was going to be an entry for American Horror Story.

Historia
In 2011, a 26-year-old libertarian programmer named Ross Ulbricht launched the ultimate free market: the Silk Road, a clandestine website hosted on the Dark Web where anyone could trade anything - drugs, hacking software, forged passports, counterfeit cash, poisons - free of the government's watchful eye. It wasn't long before the media got wind of the new website where anyone - not just teenagers and weed dealers but terrorists and black hat hackers - could buy and sell contraband detection-free.

Historia
In 2029 the United States is engaged in a bloodless world war that will wipe out the savings of millions of American families. Overnight, on the international currency exchange, the "almighty dollar" plummets in value, to be replaced by a new global currency: the "bancor". In retaliation the president declares that America will default on its loans. With "Deadbeat Nation" being unable to borrow, the government prints money to cover its bills. What little remains for savers is rapidly eaten away by runaway inflation.

Straight line entrophy
Revisado: 09-02-16
This is a novel about a future. The problem with the genre is that there are two basic ways to project the author's future reality: straight line or a "black swan" event. Lionel goes with the straight line approach. He does it very well. He projects the course of events as they proceed from the now that we know. He does throw in a black swan but it is insufficient to alter the course he has perceived (I perceive it, too). His introduction of "complexity theory" is suburb. Read Dr. Joseph A. Tainter's "Collapse of Complex Civilizations" although it is not on Audible, it should be.
Voltaire said that it is dangerous to be right when the state is wrong. This is one of the themes here. Good read, I recommend it, especially in this election year.

Hard to sympathize with psycopaths
Revisado: 06-05-16
There were several glitches in the recording. Lines being repeated was common. Other than that, it was hard to identify with people that take casual joy in extreme cruelty. Our hero band was able to obtain all manner of hardware and weapons that would simply be unavailable or too expensive for the average person. It is as if they knew when and how TSHTF.

Chaos never quits
Revisado: 02-06-16
If you could sum up Death of Empires in three words, what would they be?
Total zombie war seasoned with scumbag survivors.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The Brit NCO that was there when Britain was first penetrated. Forgot his name.
Which scene was your favorite?
When the major returns and is left un-quarantined and is aware of his turning and unable to stop himself. The listener knows what could happen to NORCOM if he doesn't stop himself and as the scene changes to another part of the struggle we are left hanging unknowing the fate of the command structure.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Watch your back and assume nothing
Any additional comments?
Please advise the reader that "LCDR" is the shorthand for Lieutenant Commander. He should familiarize himself with what the rank abbreviations stand for and say that and not the letters.

Historia
August 1942. London is in flames. Heinrich Himmler's Germany stands triumphant in the West, its "Most Dangerous Enemy" forced to the peace table by a hailstorm of nerve gas and incendiaries. With Adolf Hitler avenged and portions of the Royal Navy seized as war prizes, Nazi Germany casts its baleful gaze across the Atlantic toward an increasingly isolationist United States.

Learn the words
Revisado: 10-21-15
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
It was OK but there were some minor problems
What other book might you compare Acts of War to and why?
I would buy the next one in the series but it is not on Audible
What didn’t you like about K. Caldwell’s performance?
He did not have the correct pronunciation of several words. For example: corpse man. Obama did it too, but it doesn't make it right. Also, Cavite, fuselage, and some others. He hurries through some action sequences so rapidly that they are hard to follow. There are several unexplained gaps in the recording.
Do you think Acts of War needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Yes, because the story moves along.
Any additional comments?
One more thing: pineapples do not grow on trees
