Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

My Favorite of the Mary Russell Series
Revisado: 07-09-19
The adaptation of Ms. Hudson was creative, strong, and captivating. I loved it so much I listened to it twice. King did a great job including tidbits of history within a London set story. Normally my favorite part of the Russell books is the crime set in other counties to learn a little of their history and culture. King was able to include some within a setting we readers knew well.

Historia
New York Times best-selling author Laurie R. King has won sweeping critical acclaim and an impressive collection of awards for her writing. Although other writers have tried, no one has matched King's ability to capture the allure of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary sleuth, Sherlock Holmes.

Best Russell Holmes Story
Revisado: 03-28-19
I adored the writing style, plot, setting, and emotion in this book. King is engaging and provocative with her dynamic characters and tugging suspense. The reward of guessing parallels with Doyle (yet Doyle will always remain supreme).

Historia
In 1915, Sherlock Holmes is retired and quietly engaged in the study of honeybees in Sussex when a young woman literally stumbles onto him on the Sussex Downs. Fifteen years old, gawky, egotistical, and recently orphaned, the young Mary Russell displays an intellect to impress even Sherlock Holmes. Under his reluctant tutelage, this very modern, twentieth-century woman proves a deft protégée and a fitting partner for the Victorian detective.

Wonderful Addition to the Sherlock Holmes Stories
Revisado: 08-06-18
The Mary Russell addition was unexpected, considering Holmes' opinion of the place and extent of intelligence of a woman, but warming. The tutelage of Mary expanded the famed character of Holmes, and Laurie King writes in a style parallel to Conan Doyle. If you love the stories of Holmes and Watson, I would highly recommend all of King's Mary Russell additions.
