Historia
Fifteen years after the events of the Natchez Burning trilogy, Penn Cage is alone. Nearly all his loved ones are dead, his old allies gone, and he carries a mortal secret that separates him from the world. But Penn’s exile comes to an end when a brawl at a Mississippi rap festival triggers a bloody mass shooting—one that nearly takes the life of his daughter Annie.

I could have done without all of the anti-Trump/MAGA rhetoric.

Could have been half as long
Revisado: 10-06-24
Unnecessarily long. It seemed like there were hours worth of these characters’ inner monologues. Also after all the drama in Penn Cage’s life, why is he so naive? I found his character unbelievable in this book.

Historia
Evander “Vandy” Myrick became a cop to fulfill her father’s expectations. After her world cratered, she became a private eye to satisfy her own. Now she's back in Queenstown, New Jersey, her childhood home, in search of solace and recovery. It's a small community of nine thousand souls crammed into twelve square miles, fenced by cornfields, warehouses, pharma labs, and tract housing. As a Black woman, privacy is hard to come by in "Q-Town," and worth guarding.

Painful to listen to
Revisado: 08-31-24
Absurdly overly descriptive writing. Like a high school kid writing their first short story. I couldn’t even finish it

Historia
Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now 15 and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears.

Painful
Revisado: 07-10-22
Is this a young adult novel? Because it should be. This was painful to listen to. The characters were so dumb and undeveloped. The modern day heroine didn’t know when WW2 ended. The WW2 heroine was absurdly naïve. If you are 12 years old and need an introduction to the holocaust, this is the book for you.
