What a joy to get to know this wonderful and inspiring man in his own voice. It feels like he’s a personal friend in conversation. And the birdsong interspersed! And HIS birdsongs! But so much more than birding touches the heart in this memoir, some painful to hear but necessary. Mr. Cooper makes me want to be and do better in the world, as well as seek out that unicorn bird!

Wow! I’ve seen the movie, read the book, heard an earlier version but this is truly an all new experience. Paapa Essiedu is so perfectly cast and the subtle sound effects produce the best kind of creepy atmosphere. Well done!!

I couldn't stop listening! It just grabbed me by the brain AND the heart and I think I forgot to breathe at times. The journey is intriguing and surprising and amazing, although my heart was flattened and inflated so many times it almost hurt. TJ's gift of evoking powerful emotion is on full power here. Kirt Graves is the perfect voice for TJ's stories and he does not disappoint on this one. I'll never be able to say "yeah" again without hearing Kirt's version for Sean. (Listen and you'll get the reference!) What a crazy, lovely, sweet ride!

PERFECTION!

I've listened to many hundreds of Audible books over the years and a fair number have been loved deeply. However I have NEVER felt compelled to write a review until now. I didn't know what to expect from this story - but what I got was perfection. Perfect reader, perfect characters, perfect story. Did I say it is perfect? I couldn't stop listening. Strong women, science, a dog, a kid, challenging/believably unbelievable circumstances. I gasped, I cringed, I laughed out loud, I took deep breaths, I pondered wise words... What a ride! I seldom listen to a book twice...this one I will. And I'll be buying the hardcover to have and to hold. I can't wait for the next Bonnie Garmus creation!
