Historia
"America's best novelist" ( The Denver Post), two-time Edgar Award winner James Lee Burke is renowned for his lush, suspense-charged portrayals of the Deep South – the people, the crime, the hope and despair infused in the bayou landscape. This stunning anthology takes us back to where Burke's heart and soul beat -- the steamy, seamy Gulf Coast -- in complex and fascinating tales that crackle with violence and menace, meshing his flair for gripping storytelling with his urbane writing style.

Boring
Revisado: 09-18-12
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
No sense of a real story, just a collections of thoughts, to make this a 4 or 5 star it would need to be rewritten.
Has The Convict and Other Stories turned you off from other books in this genre?
I love James Burke but this was really bad. I will still buy his books but not if they are not part of a series.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The narration was fine, not great, but not bad.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Not that I could fine, I tried listening to most of the stories but found it hard to get through any of them. I kept hoping the next story would be better but did not find this to be the case.

Historia
.Lucas Davenport has seen many terrible murder scenes. This is one of the worst. In the small Minnesota town of Deephaven, an entire family has been killed - husband, wife, two daughters, dogs. There’s something about the scene that pokes at Lucas’s cop instincts - it looks an awful lot like the kind of scorched-earth retribution he’s seen in drug killings sometimes. But this is a seriously upscale town, and the husband was an executive vice president at a big bank. It just doesn’t seem to fit.

Historia
Newly discharged from the Marines after World War II, Scotty Bowers arrived in Hollywood in 1946. Young, charismatic, and strikingly handsome, he quickly caught the eye of many of the town's stars and starlets. He began sleeping with some himself, and connecting others with his coterie of young, attractive, and sexually free-spirited friends.

A Guilty Pleasure
Revisado: 06-23-12
Would you consider the audio edition of Full Service to be better than the print version?
The narrator was very good.
What did you like best about this story?
It was interesting to hear all the stories about the old movie stars. What a wild place Hollywood must have been before aids.
Which character – as performed by Johnny Heller – was your favorite?
None, they were all pretty disgusting!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
No moving moments just one sexual exploit after another.
Any additional comments?
It's a book that is fun listening to but you wouldn't want to be caught listening to it. Some parts of the book are just gross!!!

Historia
Mad Women is a tell-all account of life in the New York advertising world of the 1960s and '70s from Jane Maas, a female copywriter who succeeded in the primarily male environment portrayed by the hit TV show Mad Men. Fans of the show are dying to know how accurate it is: did people really have that much sex in the office? Were there really three-martini lunches? Were women really second-class citizens? Jane Maas says the answer to all three questions is unequivocally yes....

Historia
Mudgirl is a child abandoned by her mother in the silty flats of the Black Snake River. Cast aside, Mudgirl survives by an accident of fate - or destiny. After her rescue, the well-meaning couple who adopt Mudgirl quarantine her poisonous history behind the barrier of their middle-class values, seemingly sealing it off forever. But the bulwark of the present proves surprisingly vulnerable to the agents of the past.

Overly Detailed
Revisado: 04-11-12
What would have made Mudwoman better?
It was just too detailed with very little substance. I found it a difficult listen and could not get into the story. I gave up after about 8 chapters, I felt like I wasted my money on this one. I think the author just tried too hard to explain every little detail, it just didn't work for me.
Would you be willing to try another book from Joyce Carol Oates? Why or why not?
I'm not sure.
What didn’t you like about Susan Ericksen’s performance?
I'm not sure there was that much bad about her performance, I think it was just the material she had to work with that made her performance boring.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
It made me sleepy, every time I tried to listen to it I wanted to go to sleep.
Any additional comments?
Very disappointing.

Would you try another book from Josh Bazell and/or Robert Petkoff and Stephanie Wolfe ?
No, I would not.
What character would you cut from Wild Thing?
Cut them all, they were awful, I wasted a credit on this.
Any additional comments?
I waited a year for the new Josh Bazell book and get this, it was awful. His first book was wonderful. This book was nothing like the first, it was just fantasy for a 12 year old. And if that wasn't enough you have to listen to a liberal oration at the end.
