Historia
Hazel Sinnett is a lady who wants to be a surgeon more than she wants to marry. Jack Currer is a resurrection man who’s just trying to survive in a city where it’s too easy to die. When the two of them have a chance encounter outside the Edinburgh Anatomist’s Society, Hazel thinks nothing of it at first. But after she gets kicked out of renowned surgeon Dr. Beecham’s lectures for being the wrong gender, she realizes that her new acquaintance might be more helpful than she first thought.

Historia
If anyone could be considered a Russian counterpart to the infamous British double-agent Kim Philby, it was Oleg Gordievsky. The son of two KGB agents and the product of the best Soviet institutions, the savvy, sophisticated Gordievsky grew to see his nation's communism as both criminal and philistine. He took his first posting for Russian intelligence in 1968 and eventually became the Soviet Union's top man in London, but from 1973 on he was secretly working for MI6.

Might be okay for a professional spy
Revisado: 08-08-24
I really hoped to enjoy this book as I was fascinated by Operation Mincemeat. But the author described so many characters by name only and presented very little substance for a reader looking for "Greatest Espionage Story". I admit that I only listened for 3 hours and gave up waiting to hear the "great story" John Lee is one of my favorite narrators, so that wasn't the reason I couldn't finish it.

Revisado: 07-19-23
I wish I had paid attention to the reviews about the narrators. They sounded like they were reading a work of fiction. I was really looking forward to this book as I have read several others by this author. I'm so glad I could return it!

So disappointed! The characters were agonizingly sorry for themselves. The reader gasped out any of the action scenes. I have always enjoyed Harlan Coben's books, but had to return this one after an hour's listening.

Not the best in the series
Revisado: 08-12-14
What did you like about this audiobook?
George Guidall is my favorite reader. I could listen to him read the yellow pages.
The most interesting part in the book was when the terrorists were building the bomb in a barn.
How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?
Frankly, I just listened to the book for entertainment and escape from "the real world". Nothing struck me as a topic I would like to learn more about but then I wasn't looking.
Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?
It was just a spy story.
What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?
Nothing..it was George Guidall!
Do you have any additional comments?
I would have Jack played by Jeremy Renner, Kyra Sedgewick (sp.?) the girlfriend, and Joel Kinnamon play Schaefer.

Historia
Michael Robotham's Suspect, hailed as "a lightning-paced debut" by Entertainment Weekly, was an international best seller that raised the bar for thrillers. Now two characters from that acclaimed novel, Detective Vincent Ruiz and psychologist Joe O'Loughlin, return for the electrifying Lost. When Detective Ruiz is pulled from the Thames, he has a bullet in his leg, a photograph of a missing (and presumed dead) girl in his pocket, and absolutely no memory of what happened.

What did you like best about Lost? What did you like least?
Good story, but TMI about London sewage system.
What was most disappointing about Michael Robotham’s story?
Several times I wasn't sure if I was listening to a past or present event

Nails on a blackboard
Revisado: 06-08-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Increase the length of the audio sample so I would have a better idea whether I liked the narrator or not
If you’ve listened to books by Michael Koryta before, how does this one compare?
The other book was narrated by Scott Brick and I personally don't like the sound of his voice
Would you be willing to try another one of Mark Boyett’s performances?
No.
Do you think Envy the Night needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I never finished either book, so I plan to get a print book to see what I think of the author

It's a deadly dilemma for Martin Odum: both remembering and forgetting his past are dangerous options. A discharged CIA agent turned private detective, Odum is struggling through a labyrinth of memories from past identities, "legends", in CIA parlance. Is he really Martin Odum? Or is he Dante Pippen, IRA explosives specialist? Or Lincoln Dittmann, Civil War expert? Or another, hidden legend?

Not for me
Revisado: 11-22-12
Would you try another book from Robert Littell and/or Grover Gardner?
I could listen to Grover Gardner read the yellow pages.
But I doubt i would choose another book by Robert Littell. This book had too much narrative and too little action for my taste. In fact, I had to go back and listen to some of the book to remember what it was about.
What could Robert Littell have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I never understand why Audible asks this question.
What about Grover Gardner’s performance did you like?
Grover Gardner's voice makes me feel like I am reading the book
Did Legends inspire you to do anything?
The only inspiration I got was not to get another book of his. I have read other reviews of this author, and a lot of people really enjoy them. Guess his style of writing just does't work for me.
Any additional comments?
I wouldn't discourage anyone else to try it

Historia
An erotic gay romance, a suspenseful thriller.... A series of murders in New York City has stymied the police and FBI alike, and they suspect the culprit is a single killer sending an indecipherable message. But when the two federal agents assigned to the investigation are taken out, the FBI takes a more personal interest in the case. Special Agent Ty Grady is pulled out of undercover work. He's cocky, abrasive, and indisputably the best at what he does.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

What could Abigail Roux and Madeleine Urban have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Words with more than 3 syllables and a plot.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Sawyer Allerde?
Nobody comes to mind
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Not for me.

Hard to Finish
Revisado: 11-11-12
Is there anything you would change about this book?
It would be difficult to recommend any changes because it earned the Booker Prize. That is a very intimidating award.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Thomas Cromwell has always intrigued me, but I got tired of him...I am not so intrigued any more
What does Simon Slater bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He was the only reason I kept trying to like the book.
Was Wolf Hall worth the listening time?
Well, I don't plan to invest the time finishing it.
Any additional comments?
Even with Mr. Slater's skills,I i was often baffled about who was talking and what/who they were talking about. This is sometimes a disadvantage in any book with the audio format, as I can't flip back the pages. That said, I probably wouldn't have had the patience to go back and forth in the book, either.
