Historia
Most Sinful residents are unaware of Carter’s crisis and are going about their daily lives as they always have, including local prankster Gage Babin. Except this time, Gage’s attempt to elicit laughs leaves him on a slab in the medical examiner’s office. Everyone knows how unhealthy he was, but Fortune thinks there’s more to his death than a poorly timed prank that caused his bad heart to give out.

No big thrills; fun to listen to.
Revisado: 06-18-24
I’ve enjoyed all the Miss Fortune Mystery books. Swamp Spies started out fast and thrilling with Carter back in the desert and needing rescued. Once everyone gets back to Sinful, the thrill pace slows way down.

Historia
Emma Frederick bolts upright in bed, pulse racing. It must be a bad dream. Except it’s not. Crrrrrreeeeeeeeaaaaaaakkkkkkk. The sound of the loose step sends her body into overdrive, and she rushes for the secret room behind the wall. The screech of old hinges echoes through the house as he enters her bedroom. He starts whistling. Three blind mice. Three blind mice. She slaps a hand over her mouth, stifling her scream. He’s coming for her, but that can’t be. She killed him last month.

I’ve listened three times. Twice in March 2023, and now again. I didn’t realize I had listened to the book previously, until I heard the narrator again. The story line was good, but not my favorite Jana DeLeon book.

Historia
Air Force pilot Captain Carlyle "Smitty" Harris was shot down over Vietnam on April 4, 1965 and taken to the infamous Hoa Lo prison—nicknamed the "Hanoi Hilton." For the next eight years, Smitty and hundreds of other American POWs—including John McCain and George "Bud" Day—suffered torture, solitary confinement, and unimaginable abuse. It was there Smitty covertly taught the Tap Code—an old, long-unused World War II method of communication—to many POWs. In turn, they taught others, and it quickly became a way for POWs to communicate without their captors' knowledge.

Leaning on Faith
Revisado: 10-06-20
A good clean read. I felt the beginning was a bit slow; I'm glad I stuck with it. By the end of the story, I was uncontrollably sobbing--I wasn't sad, I just felt a connection. While deployed to Afghanistan, I often leaned on prayer and FAITH from one day to the next.
I would recommend the book to Veterans and non Veterans; I feel the story is about your faith being strong enough to deliver you through obstacles you face in life. "GBU"!

Read the book years ago, thought I liked it. Listened to the book on Audio, and I now claim to love it! As a retired service member, I love the kickass characters. I do hope to see Brenner in the future--a little older, and less of a dick.

Not my fave!
Revisado: 01-28-20
I really enjoy the Elvis Cole series. I enjoyed the story line to Sunset Express. My husband and I often listen together to books on road trips; this book we listened to separately, and both of us made the same comment, it was hard to stay focused on the story because of the reader's lisps.

Two blood-spattered strangers awake, locked in the trunk of a car - with a murdered cop and the smoking gun. Aside from raging headaches and no idea what's happened, they appear to have nothing in common. Troy thinks it's 2001 and he's still a combat surgeon fighting terrorists in Afghanistan. Emmy believes it's 2002 and she's still grifting a living from the streets of L.A.

Love Dick Hill! I enjoyed the book so much, that I actually listened to it twice. I was pulled in the second time as much as I was the first time. Can't wait to hear more about the "flash" characters.

Simply Outstanding
Revisado: 07-24-17
I can't say enough about this. I'm a Reacher, Bosch, anything Baldacci and DeMille write - and chose this one on a whim. I see the comments about the length, well... I humbly disagree. I absolutely thought it was incredible! It is long, but it is real - you feel part of the story, and face it, 1699 was not a year for speed - the author takes the time to make you feel as though you were there, in that year. I am downloading the third in the series right now - the second one does not disappoint either. Excellent reader as well, pleased to see he is reading 3-6!!!!!
