LOVE IT -- NEED MORE
Revisado: 11-21-22
I wasn't sure if I would like it at first, with the way the voices traded off, but I quickly realized I was wrong -- and I was addicted. I enjoyed this so much it made me sad when I discovered I had reached the last episode. Please make more! Pretty please! Don't leave us hanging!

Excellent Autobiography! Some reader errors.
Revisado: 06-20-21
The only reason I knock one star off is because this could have benefited from a through proof-listen prior to release. The reading was clear, lovely, and competent, but there were errors that should have been eliminated in the end-production process. It is absolutely still worth the listen, and an important piece of first-hand history, so don't let the errors put you off!

Historia
The Neptune Grand has always been the seaside town's ritziest hotel, despite the shady dealings and high-profile scandals that seem to follow its elite guests. When a woman claims that she was brutally assaulted in one of its rooms and left for dead by a staff member, the owners know that they have a potential powder keg on their hands. They turn to Veronica to disprove - or prove - the woman's story.

Excellent read -- I just miss Kristen Bell
Revisado: 04-24-21
This is excellent and fun and gritty, like everything else Veronica Mars, and the narrator did a great job, with a great proficiency for accents. It's not her fault she isn't Kristen Bell, and I'm not blaming anyone for the fact that Kristen isn't reading this one. I just like her delivery better (because she's the Original), and was a teensy bit disappointed it wasn't her narrating. Other than that, it's totally worth the purchase, and I would listen to this narrator again. :) I hope Rob Thomas writes more for us Veronica Mars junkies! ;)

Excellent, Engaging, and Surprising!
Revisado: 04-14-20
I've only listened to this once, but now I have to go back and listen again. I very much enjoyed the character acting -- though I did get a the two women's voices confused occasionally. The banter was sharp and quick-witted (my favorite kind of dialogue), and the acting well-paced and evocative. And I LOVE the twist ending! Which is why I have to go back and listen again -- so I can fully appreciate the story as a whole (and enjoy that banter again!).
This is excellent; highly recommended!

Historia
Everything I’d known about the world was a lie. On my thirteenth birthday, I, Alcatraz Smedry (yes, I got named after a prison, don’t ask), received my inheritance: a bag of sand. And then I accidentally destroyed my foster parents’ kitchen. It’s not my fault, things just break around me, I swear! I thought the sand was a joke until evil Librarians came to steal it. You’re probably thinking, “Librarians are nice people who recommend good books,” but that’s just what they want you to think!

My kids and I listened to this during longer car rides, and we loved it! The narrator had the perfect sardonic tone to match a sullen/confused teenage boy, which made the humorous parts that much funnier. looking forward to listening to the sequels!

Decent Story, Odd Narration
Revisado: 09-19-18
The story was okay; a little hard to follow sometimes. I enjoyed the creative names and the world the characters inhabited. I didn't so much enjoy the main character, but I did like the supporting characters well enough. I'm curious to see where the story might lead.
I wish I could say I enjoyed the narration, but Kate Rudd's unnatural cadence really bugged me. I'm probably the only one who actually liked her male voices, but mainly because they had a more natural speaking rhythm than anything else in the narration, especially the main character. In fact, almost every other character had a more natural rhythm than Maia's. Kate's weird deeper voice for when Maia was emotional, paired with that stilted, unnatural speaking cadence made it difficult to enjoy Maia's scenes. It honestly sounded like a computer doing a live read -- not like human speech patterns at all. The story narration was not much better.
If I continue this series, it will be by reading the text version. I don't think I can listen to that narrator again.
