Historia
For centuries, men and women have manned lighthouses to ensure the safe passage of ships. It is a lonely job and a thankless one for the most part. Until something goes wrong. Until a ship is in distress. In the twenty-third century, this job has moved into outer space. A network of beacons allows ships to travel across the Milky Way at many times the speed of light. These beacons are built to be robust. They never break down. They never fail. At least, they aren’t supposed to.

Very boring story
Revisado: 07-23-23
The main character whined continuously. The monologue throughout the story was annoying. What little action there was seemed insignificant, pointless.

Disappointing narration
Revisado: 09-30-22
While the story was good, the narration was very difficult to listen to. At first, I thought that the narrator was actually a synthesized voice or AI, but a synthesized voice of any kind nowadays is not this bad. For the most part, the narrator was droning on with hardly any inflection in his voice, and the different characters basically sounded the same. Just as annoying was that the 30 or 40 times that the word ‘Enceladus’ was spoken, it was completely miss-pronounced! Were all the editors at audible.com on vacation? Additionally, there were several sentences repeated by the narrator. There were a few gaps of silence the end of some chapters, and in one chapter, an unknown amount of content was cut off mid-phrase before moving to the next chapter. .. Is there no quality control at Audible? Very disappointed.

Do I need more politics?
Revisado: 03-24-21
I finished the entire 1st book of the original Foundation Trilogy -- Sorry, Foundation fans. I found it extremely tedious. All talk and almost no action. Plus, I've got enough politics around me these days, I don't need to see it in a book that I want to enjoy. Not for me.... Narrator was great, though!

Historia
When treasure hunters excavate the long-lost wreck of the Steamship Arcadia from a Kansas corn field, a buried creature awakens - a mindless brute made of accursed earth, shaped like a man, but in no way mortal. A century and a half after its creation, the golem’s sole mission resumes: to assassinate a savage pro-slavery guerilla commander named “Bloody Bill” Wolcott. Wolcott, of course, is long dead, but his closest surviving descendant - a corporate IT burnout named Ben Middleton - is quite available.

Revisado: 09-04-19
I wanted to like this book, but it ended up wasting my time (and I even sped the audio up to 1.75)... I kept waiting for something to happen in the story, but NOTHING. Just a bit at the very end of the story. Too much character development... lots of baggage.

Historia
Neal Stephenson is a blazing new force on the sci-fi scene. With the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, he has "vaulted onto the literary stage." It weaves virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility - in short, it is the gigathriller of the information age.

Gave up after 3 hours and couldn't imagine going on for another 14 hours. Pace was too fast, particularly considering tons of jargon and even invented words.

In a world devastated by nuclear war with humanity on the edge of extinction, aliens finally make contact. They rescue those humans they can, keeping most survivors in suspended animation while the aliens begin the slow process of rehabilitating the planet. When Lilith Iyapo is "awakened", she finds that she has been chosen to revive her fellow humans in small groups by first preparing them to meet the utterly terrifying aliens, then training them to survive on the wilderness that the planet has become. But the aliens cannot help humanity without altering it forever.

Not Much Happening Here
Revisado: 11-19-16
The premise of this book was promising at first, but it became evident early in the book that it was becoming a tedious and slow story. The feel of the story, perhaps how it was read, was annoying to me. I was unable to keep track of all the alien names. Essentially, the story was slow-going. At the end, I was definitely not interested in going on to the second Book of this series.

Cities were crushed by the falling spacecraft, but one ship didn't crash. It remained intact and disgorged hordes of alien soldiers determined to fight to the death. The abandoned vessels also contained a wealth of advanced technology. Led by David Levinson, the greatest minds of our world developed deadly new hybrid weapons. Bases were built on the moon, Mars, and beyond. A new generation of defenders had to be trained, for the invaders would return.

Historia
As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

A Great Job - Very Convincing
Revisado: 05-27-16
I preface this by saying that I am a huge fan of the Alien franchise. I was surprised when this title showed up in my recommended list, and was a bit skeptical. However, I thoroughly enjoyed this production. It was true to the original Alien events and characters with great continuity and resolution. When I heard the voice of the actress who played Ripley, I was convinced it was Sigourney Weaver. I had to look at the credits to realize it wasn't! These folks did a fine job acting out their roles. Sound effects were great. I didn't know that Audible offered original dramas. Very, very pleased!

Historia
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

I like the story plot line, but as usual, this author goes way too much into character backgrounds making this a tedious and needlessly time-consuming book.

Historia
Jeremy Bishop's first pulse-pounding novel is a horrific tale of post-apocalyptic terror that is one part zombie story and one part Dante's Inferno. The story asks hard questions and generates strong emotions in everyone who reads it--anger, excitement, and most of all: FEAR. This book asks the question that everyone is afraid to answer: Are you ready? Enter the mind of Jeremy Bishop if you dare. Share his nightmares. Experience the fear that shaped his life. You may never be the same.

Non-stop terror with none of the usual baggage!
Revisado: 06-05-15
What I really liked about this book - aside from keeping me interested throughout - was that there was no boring baggage that several authors (like S. King) relentlessly provide to develop their characters, making their books quite boring. Additionally, the type of zombies we see in this story are refreshingly different.
