Historia
Stephen McGann is Dr. Turner in the BBC hit drama series Call the Midwife. His family survived famine-ravaged Ireland in the 1850s. His ancestors settled in poverty-rife Victorian Liverpool, working to survive and thrive. Some of them became soldiers serving on the Western Front. One would be the last man to step off the SS Titanic as it sank beneath the icy waves. He would testify at the inquest. This is their story.

Exceptionally poignant
Revisado: 11-30-24
I loved the way that the medical facts were tied to the essence of life and connected to his family’s story. The compassion, gentleness and objectivity he writes about his own parents is also remarkable. I also love that it is a celebration of working class people for who they were, giving dignity to them for the intrinsic value of themselves.

Historia
Arch-swindler Moist von Lipwig never believed his crimes were hanging offenses, until he found himself with a noose around his neck, dropping through a trap door, and falling into...a government job? Getting the moribund Postal Service up and running again, however, may be an impossible task. Worse, the new Postmaster could swear the mail is talking to him.

Love Pratchett and love the way Steven Briggs reads it! It is so good to have so many of the gaps from the other series filled in.

Historia
William de Worde is the accidental editor of the Discworld's first newspaper. Now he must cope with the traditional perils of a journalist's life - people who want him dead, a recovering vampire with a suicidal fascination for flash photography, some more people who want him dead in a different way and, worst of all, the man who keeps begging him to publish pictures of his humorously shaped potatoes.

Loving having the gaps filled in.
Revisado: 02-13-24
This is the first time I am listening to the Industrial Revolution series and am love of the way it brings a new perspective on Ankh Morpork. It has taken a bit to get used to different narrators as Nigel Planer and Tony Robinson are who I am
Used to but I am enjoying the new crew too.

Jonathan Cecil is made to read Wodehouse.
Revisado: 02-17-21
Listening to Jonathan Cecil reading Wodehouse is an escape from the mundane and a trip into a wonderful world of confusion and misunderstanding that resolve themselves as the should.
Wodehouse at his best with overbearing aunts well mixed in. As always a delight to read!

Historia
Can a young war correspondent find herself and follow her heart? In this work of historical fiction, 20-something Annabella “Annie” March arrives in France in 1944 intending to write about the war. Soon, however, Annie begins to distance herself from her sometimes-mentor, sometimes-rival - the great Martha Gellhorn - and Gellhorn’s larger-than-life husband, the novelist Ernest Hemingway. She turns to photography in the hopes of making her own name and, to her delight, discovers that images come more easily than words.
