Historia
Liz Danger is stuck in her hometown of Burney, Ohio, because her insane employer has rented a house there for the summer, which means she has three more months of trying to get a copy edit done, babysitting a seven-year-old, and figuring out what to do with three hundred and ninety-two teddy bears. And then there’s her mother. Even the good news that she’s living with a hot cop is tempered by the knowledge that sooner or later, she’s going to have to figure out her future, and she's still not sure what she wants that to be.

This entire series was fantastic. I blew through all three books faster than I wish, because I'm now sad they're over. Crusie and Mayer are so great at blending humor and action and romance. I haven't found any other books like theirs, even though I've been searching for years, ever since reading Agnes and the Hitman many years ago.

Historia
Liz Danger is a ghostwriter, trapped in her old hometown for the summer. Good thing she has Vince Cooper, her recurring one-night stand living down by the river in his old diner car, making her feel happy and safe and normal until September when she’ll be leaving again, although she’s starting to wonder if she really wants to.

Rest In Pink
Revisado: 03-21-24
Loved this story. This series is great so far, and as the second book, I'm just loving that each book has had its own mystery and storyline arc from start to finish but also an overarching storyline throughout all the books. I'm going straight from this one to book #3. I said it after reading Lavender's Blue and I'll say it again after Rest In Pink: I am so happy Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer decided to write another series together, especially this type of small-town mystery-slash-romance-slash-comedy that they're so great at.

Historia
Liz Danger has returned home after fifteen years to deliver a giant teddy bear for her mother’s birthday (color: Guilt Red) when a cop with a great ass picks her up for speeding, fixes the missing lug nuts on her back wheel, pulls her out of a ditch, doesn’t give her a ticket, and helps her avoid her family. This is a man with real potential. The rest of the day goes downhill, starting with her finding out that the only man she’s ever loved is getting married to Lavender Blue, the most beautiful woman in southern Ohio. Really, the best thing in her day is that cop with the lug nuts.

Crusie & Mayer are Back!
Revisado: 03-18-24
Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer are back, and my gosh, I've missed them. I loved this book. Reminded me so much of Agnes and the Hitman with its small-town mystery, banter, romance, family, and secrets. It's as much about the side characters as the MCs for me, so as much as I loved Vince and especially Liz, Peri, Molly, Anemone, and a couple others were extremely entertaining. And no complaints about the narration. I alternated between the ebook and Audible and love how it remembers my place between the two medias. I can't wait to read where they take this series!

Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered a few questionable opportunities ("It's a piece of cake! Just do four hours of interviews, find someone else to write it, put your face on the cover, and voila!") I have decided to tell these stories just as I have always done, in my own voice.

The Storyteller by Dave Grohl
Revisado: 12-31-23
The Storyteller by Dave Grohl might have just taken the #1 spot in my favorite autobiographies. Each chapter is its own theme and not necessarily in chronological order. From childhood events to "making of the band" stories, family life to backstage shenanigans, grief to joy, I loved all of it. I don't know if I would've liked it quite as much if I'd been reading it instead of listening to Dave's voice reading his own book, but the stories included still would have been entertaining. His emotions and occasional sound effects made it so much better. Plus, he even made the end credits funny. Highly recommend the audio version of this book.

Through the Ether
Revisado: 01-04-23
Sad the story of Piper, Merc, and Knox is complete. An incredible amount of events were packed into this final book of the series, including the introduction of an entirely new powerful character and part of Faerie. I wasn't quite sold on the ending at first, and I'm still a little heartbroken, but the more I think about it, the more I think it was perfection.

Beneath the Dust

This series keeps getting better. Beneath the Dust is more action-packed and evenly paced than the first three books, in my opinion. It feels like the author found her stride and I'm loving it. Cannot wait to start the fifth and final book Through the Ether!

Another day, another problem for Piper Jones and her eclectic mix of allies. And so far, her crew of vampire enforcers, werewolves, and her warlock mentor have come through it all unscathed. But when a rogue assassin starts killing off Knox’s pack, she’s got more to worry about than the faint blue scar on her chest and her failing powers. Now, she must race against time to heal her broken magic if she wants to save the wolves she’s grown to love.

This was my favorite book of the series so far. The emotions, relationship growth, and conflicts all seemed more genuine than in the first two books. I could relate to the characters more and finally feel like I'm invested in the story. Already starting book #4!

Into the Storm
Revisado: 06-04-22
I'm still enjoying this series and plan to read the rest of the books, but I just couldn't relate to Piper in this one. It's impossible for me to imagine not being extremely upset when a mate, boyfriend, lover (or whatever you want to call them) keeps secrets and refuses to come clean when everyone else warns her about them. No woman I know would let that slide. Other that that, the story and characters are entertaining. Looking forward to getting some resolution in the next book.

Piper Jones can't catch a break. After a lifetime of animosity and indifference from the supernatural community, she thought she'd finally found a home with the vampire king's enforcers. Then the dark and mysterious Merc walks into her life, and it takes a disastrous turn for the worse.

From the Ashes
Revisado: 05-31-22
I really enjoyed the second half of From the Ashes and am glad I kept reading. There was so much mystery around what Piper actually was that the first half was almost uncomfortable for me to listen to, especially once the complication of Merc's mood swings was added. I loved all the characters and how they grew throughout the story, though. Jase and Dean are phenomenal. There are still a lot of unanswered questions I'm hoping will be answered in the next book.

Anna Kendrick's autobiographical collection of essays amusingly recounts memorable moments throughout her life, from her middle-class upbringing in New England to the blockbuster movies that have made her one of Hollywood's most popular actresses today. Expanding upon the witty and ironic dispatches for which she is known, Anna Kendrick's essays offer her one-of-a-kind commentary on the absurdities she's experienced on her way to and from the heart of pop culture.

I LOVED the narration by the author, because the book is written in her voice, so it only makes sense to listen to it in her voice. To be honest, I couldn't quite get into it when I tried to read the e-book myself, and I think that's why. The book is filled with funny stories and down-to-earth musings. Highly recommend the audiobook over the physical or e-book.
