Historia
A gifted young knight named Collum arrives at Camelot to compete for a place at the Round Table, only to find that he’s too late. King Arthur died two weeks ago at the Battle of Camlann, and only a handful of the knights of the Round Table are left. The survivors aren’t the heroes of legend like Lancelot or Gawain. They’re the oddballs of the Round Table, like Sir Palomides, the Saracen Knight, and Sir Dagonet, Arthur’s fool, who was knighted as a joke. They’re joined by Nimue, who was Merlin’s apprentice until she turned on him and buried him under a hill.

A Convaluted Retelling
Revisado: 08-24-24
I am quite surprised that I made it to the end. Not sure I found much to like or remember in this odd retelling of The King Arthur fable.

Like many fans of Diana Galbaldon, waiting for the next Outlander novel is always the challenge. I enjoyed caching up on all my favorite characters and won’t give away more.

Historia
What if our homes could tell the stories of others who lived there before us? Set in a small village near Paris, The Balcony follows the inhabitants of a single estate - including a manor and a servants' cottage - over the course of several generations, from the Belle Époque to the present day, introducing us to a fascinating cast of characters. A young American au pair develops a crush on her brilliant employer. An ex-courtesan shocks the servants, a Jewish couple in hiding from the Gestapo attract the curiosity of the neighbors, and a housewife begins an affair.

I wanted to jump from The Balcony!
Revisado: 04-24-19
I’m sorry I wasted time with this twisted story that attempts to weave many people together through generations in a grand house and small cottage in France. Not one story amounts to any finally but it does seem to inforce the theme of unfaithful relationships if that is your cup of tea.

I am so sorry to have been seduced into this book by a ad in the NYT Book Review. It is a twisted, sometimes poetic, jumble of everything and yet nothing with no real story or point. Do not waste you time.

Historia
Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen - the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria - took up residence on Dragonstone. Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.

Fire and Blood: a genealogy
Revisado: 01-23-19
A a true fan of George R. R. Martin and all of the Game of Thrones books I must admit to being sorely dissatisfied in Fire and Ice. It reads like a list of genealogy and battles. There is NO character development. One is left to assume that the book is a mere outline for Hollywood screenwriters to turn into more dramatic, battle and dragon filled television.

Historia
Americans have built an empire on the idea of “race”, a falsehood that damages us all but falls most heavily on the bodies of Black women and men - bodies exploited through slavery and segregation and, today, threatened, locked up, and murdered out of all proportion. What is it like to inhabit a Black body and find a way to live within it? And how can we all honestly reckon with this fraught history and free ourselves from its burden? Between the World and Me is Ta-Nehisi Coates’ attempt to answer these questions in a letter to his adolescent son.
