Historia
We are our stories. We tell them to stay alive or keep alive those who only live now in the telling. In Faha, County Clare, everyone is a long story...Bedbound in her attic room beneath the falling rain, Plain Ruth Swain is in search of her father. To find him Ruthie must first trace the jutting jaw lines, narrow faces, and gleamy skin of the Swains from the restless Reverend Swain, her great-grandfather, to her father.

Amazing Writing!!!
Revisado: 04-04-25
the history of rain is another Exquisite Story by Niall Williams. I've now listened to this is happiness, the time of the child, for love letters. one of my favorite authors who blends incredible storytelling with spirituality and mysticism in my humble opinion. this is a fantastic book, the narration was okay. I highly recommend the same author's book titled this is happiness! also.

In the years following the death of Jesus Christ, John the Apostle, now a frail, blind old man, lives in forced exile on the desolate island of Patmos with a small group of his disciples. It is against this turbulent background and inspired by Jesus's radical message of love and forgiveness that John comes to dictate his Gospel.

Deeply Spiritual Story
Revisado: 03-13-25
This is my 4th listen to the books of Niall Williams. LOVE his other books!!! John, a serious departure from his other novels. A fictional reenactment of the final years of John the apostle, in banishment on the Isle of Padmos along with other disciples of Jesus many years after his crucifixion. The style and beauty of writing unique and compelling. Brilliant profound writing, narration, and storytelling!

Years later, Nicholas’s own civil-service career is disrupted by tragic news: his father has burned down the house, with all his paintings and himself in it. Isabel Gore is the daughter of a poet. She’s a passionate girl, but her brother is the real prodigy, a musician. And yet this family, too, is struck by tragedy: a seizure leaves the boy mute and unable to play.

4th Niall Williams book. Incredibly unique and poetic storytelling. Mystical deep plot - began slowly and intensified. The author is a decent narrator - much prefer the narrator who read This is Happiness. Absolutely rare and spiritual writing imho. Cheers to Niall Williams. Every book has been beyond excellent!:

Historia
Doctor Jack Troy was born and raised in Faha, but his responsibilities for the sick and his care for the dying mean he has always been set apart from the town. His eldest daughter, Ronnie, has grown up in her father’s shadow, and remains there, having missed one chance at love – and passed up another offer of marriage from an unsuitable man. But in the Advent season of 1962, as the town readies itself for Christmas, Ronnie and Doctor Troy’s lives are turned upside down when a baby is left in their care.

Heartwarming Poetic Story
Revisado: 02-05-25
A sequel to one of my favorite books of all time, This is Happiness. Niall Williams brings us back to the Irish Village, Fawha. This story moves to focus on the local doctor, Jack Troy, and his eldest unmarried daughter known as Ronnie. Perhaps a miracle happens that forever will change their lives. Beautiful writing, vivid characters, deep yet humorous book. Perfect narration too!!! Niall Williams is a genius, fantastic author imo!

Historia
In 1916, Sven Ormson leaves a restless life in Stockholm to seek adventure in Svalbard, an Arctic archipelago where darkness reigns four months of the year and he might witness the splendor of the Northern Lights one night and be attacked by a polar bear the next. But his time as a miner ends when an avalanche nearly kills him, leaving him disfigured, and Sven flees even further, to an uninhabited fjord. There, with the company of a loyal dog, he builds a hut and lives alone, testing himself against the elements.

Awesome Story!!!
Revisado: 01-09-25
love that Simplicity yet depth and breath of this fictional Memoir that took place around 1910 to 19 46ish. you learn a little bit about the Swedish and Norwegian cultures of that time and the main protagonist who lives in a far north Outpost which is a mining town during the time of the year where there is light and a small group of hunters and Trappers spend the other half of the year on this Outpost. I learned a lot and felt it was brilliantly written, loved the narrator however I had to speed it up by about 5% on Audible. this book is a gem that perhaps is not well known about or acclaimed yet? I gave it five stars all the way.

Historia
In a remote Polish village, Janina devotes the dark winter days to studying astrology, translating the poetry of William Blake, and taking care of the summer homes of wealthy Warsaw residents. Her reputation as a crank and a recluse is amplified by her not-so-secret preference for the company of animals over humans. Then, a neighbor, Big Foot, turns up dead. Soon, other bodies are discovered, in increasingly strange circumstances. As suspicions mount, Janina inserts herself into the investigation, certain that she knows whodunit. If only anyone would pay her mind....

Incredible Storytelling!!!
Revisado: 12-30-24
Loved this quirky and profound story from the perspective of the protagonist, a brilliant and unique woman leading a quasi reclusive life in a mountain town in Eastern Europe. The fact that this author won a Nobel Prize in literature for this story indicates the quality and uniqueness of the writing. I had to speed up the narration which was excellent but a little slow, Otherwise this book is incredible and narration also wonderful! A must listen 🩵

1660 England. General Edward Whalley and his son-in law Colonel William Goffe board a ship bound for the New World. They are on the run, wanted for the murder of King Charles I—a brazen execution that marked the culmination of the English Civil War, in which parliamentarians successfully battled royalists for control.

absolutely love this book and the writing! the narration was Pitch Perfect and inhabited many unique characters from England and the new world. I did not realize the religious fanaticism and underpinning of what has become the United States of America. How difficult it was to break away from a monarchy and yet What a Beautiful Mess we have created. happy to have discovered this author who really knows how to weave a story masterfully!

A moving novel on the power of friendship in our darkest times, from internationally renowned writer and speaker Elif Shafak. In the pulsating moments after she has been murdered and left in a dumpster outside Istanbul, Tequila Leila enters a state of heightened awareness. Her heart has stopped beating, but her brain is still active - for 10 minutes 38 seconds. Brilliant author! Loved the depth and breadth of Laila's tragic and heroic life. Awesome characters with a story for each. One gets to know life in Turkey - and the hardship of being a woman, especially a victim of family molestation and the fallout. My third book by Elif Shafak - highest praise!!!

Historia
1970s, Southern Alabama. Sixty-two-year-old Jeremiah Lewis Taylor, or “Nub,” has spent his whole life listening to those he loves tell him he’s no good—first his ex-wife, now his always-disapproving daughter. Sure, his escapades have made him, along with his cousin and perennial sidekick, Benny, just a smidge too familiar with small-town law enforcement, but he’s never harmed anyone—except perhaps himself.
