Historia
Anna Karenina is a novel by the Russian author Leo Tolstoy, first published in book form in 1878. Many writers consider Anna Karenina the greatest work of literature ever, and Tolstoy himself called it his first true novel. It was initially released in serial installments from 1873 to 1877 in the periodical The Russian Messenger. A complex novel in eight parts, with more than a dozen major characters, it is spread over more than 800 pages (depending on the translation and publisher), typically contained in two volumes.

Bravo! Inspired Narrator Harrie Dobby
Revisado: 09-30-22
Loved listening to the voice of Harrie Dobby. She brought it to life and even in places where Tolstoy got a bit tedious, Dobby kept me interested with her genius for nuance in the characters' moods and emotions.

Historia
The aromas of wild thyme and Highland heather waft through Lochdubh, home to M. C. Beaton's eccentric policeman, Hamish Macbeth. Yet what the irascible constable smells in his latest case is the acrid scent of fear as an entire town is entrapped in something dark and deadly.... Yet as he deftly investigates the summer's high crimes and misdemeanors, he attracts the attention of his superiors. They feel a promotion and transfer will give him a larger playing field than Lochdubh. That's the last thing Macbeth wants.

Historia
Austen wrote, 'I am going to take a heroine whom no-one but myself will much like' and thus introduces the handsome, clever, rich - and flawed, Emma Woodhouse. Emma is perfectly content with her life and sees no need for either love or marriage; nothing however delights her more than matchmaking her fellow residents of Highbury. But when she ignores the warnings of her good friend Mr. Knightley and attempts to arrange a suitable match for her protegee Harriet Smith, her carefully laid plans soon unravel and have consequences that she never expected.

Mr. Knightly sounds too old and passive.
Revisado: 09-21-18
Although Emma and her father are played brilliantly, Mr. Knightly was cast too passive and sounds much older than 38. Couldn't enjoy the story romance that develops.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Adolescent approach to important ideas
Revisado: 07-10-18
Struggled to like it. I like a well-placed f***ing grand and what the f*** as much as most but this tedious narrative seemed to substitute frequent use of f*** and variants for actual refreshing ideas. For my taste, there are better ways of saying get out of your head, dig deep into your heart, do the right thing and let the chips fall where they may.

Historia
When Scotland is hit by the recession, Police Constable Hamish Macbeth notices that the Highland people are forced to come up with inventive ways to lure tourists to their sleepy towns. The quaint village of Braikie doesn't have much to offer, other than a place of rare beauty called Buchan's Wood, which was bequeathed to the town. The savvy local tourist director renames the woods "The Fairy Glen," and has brochures printed with a beautiful photograph of a kingfisher rising from a pond on the cover. It isn't long before coach tours begin to arrive.

Masterfully read by Graeme Malcolm
Revisado: 02-03-18
Loved it. Graeme Malcolm's nuanced voice of a thousand subtlties spirited me to Beaton's Scotland of Hamish Macbeth, local copper who lets others take the credit when he solves the murders lest he be promoted and have to leave his highland village to live in the dirty city. I love Beaton's locals, their ancient culture of gossip and superstition mixed with cell phones. But Malcolm's voice is like a wonderful piece of classical music full of melodic notes, tones and surprises. Bravo.

Historia
When a local woman tells Sergeant Hamish Macbeth that she doesn't remember what happened the previous evening, he doesn't begin to worry. She had been out drinking, after all, and he'd prefer not to be bothered with such an arrogant and annoying woman. But when her body is discovered, Hamish is forced to investigate a crime that the only known witness - now dead - had forgotten.

Historia
Amazing news has spread across the Scottish countryside. The most famous of highland bachelors, police sergeant Hamish Macbeth, may actually marry at last. The entire village of Lochdubh adores Macbeth's bride-to-be. Josie McSween is Hamish's new constable, and she is a pretty little thing, with glossy brown hair and big brown eyes. The local folk think that Josie is quite a catch, but Hamish couldn't be more miserable.

Revisado: 11-11-17
I'm mesmerised by Beaton's Hamish Macbeth books read by Graeme Malcolm. It was a real treat listening to Marilyn Beaton share that each book is difficult to right because there's always the fear that she won't be able to do it. She said you have to work for your readers. Which really shows in her books.
