Loved most of this book...
Revisado: 05-09-19
I learned a lot from this audio book Ms. Jay presented great ideas and suggestions, just what I was looking for and needed. Nine-tenths of the way through this book I would have gladly rated it at 5 stars. I was really into it-I even took notes! HOWEVER, at the end of the book she went into a tirade on the environment, our shopping habits, the global economy and how our gluttony is root of all evil. I bought this book for tips on how to declutter and organize MY home and MY space, not the whole planet! There are other books out there designed specifically on how to restore the rain forests, end world hunger, close down sweatshops and super stores, etc., and if that is what I was looking for I would have purchased one of them to begin with. Thank you Audible for providing a fast forward button.

In the historical context of the Jim Crow South, Gail explores her mother's decision to pass, how she hid her secret even from her own husband, and the price she paid for choosing whiteness. Haunted by her mother's fear and shame, Gail embarks on a quest to uncover her mother's racial lineage, tracing her family back to 18th-century colonial Louisiana. In coming to terms with her decision to publicly out her mother, Gail changed how she looks at race and heritage.

Loved this book
Revisado: 01-18-19
I really liked this book. As a long-time family historian myself, with 1692 witches and murders in my family tree, I could appreciate Gail’s emotional highs and lows when it came to her findings. When climbing a family tree one never knows just what they will find.

Historia
In an ancient land in a time foretold by prophets, a babe was born beneath a shining star. Thirty years later, Jesus of Nazareth began teaching a message of hope, peace, and love. He claimed to be the Son of God, and his words - and his life - would change the world. Though David ben Joseph is quick to accept Jesus as the Messiah, the rest of his family is more cautious.

Historia
Jesus of Nazareth's announcement that he is the Messiah has blazed through Jerusalem and the surrounding countryside like wildfire. As he travels through Galilee, the crowds follow him, witnessing miracles and healings. Jesus teaches the parable of the lost sheep and the return of the prodigal son. He walks on the water. But discipleship to Jesus the Messiah has come at a high price for both Simeon and Miriam.

At 32, Kimberly Rossetti, a finance officer at a Lexus car dealership, has had her heart broken more times than she wants to remember. With two failed engagements and a divorce, and again alone with no prospects, she hardly seems the type to dream of being a published romance author. Dreading another holiday alone, she signs up for The Mistletoe Retreat, a nine-day writing retreat in Savannah, Georgia. Deep inside Kimberly knows she's at a junction in her life, and it's time to either fulfill her dream or let it go.

For me, the book started out slow. Half way through the writers conference I found myself thinking..."I thought this was a holiday romance?" Just about the time I was going to move on to somethibg else to listen to, the story came alive. I'm so very glad I stuck with it! It tuned out to be one of my favorite Richard Paul Evans books!!

Historia
Thousands of people have had near-death experiences, but scientists have argued that they are impossible. Dr. Eben Alexander was one of those scientists. Neurosurgeon Alexander knew that NDEs feel real, but are simply fantasies produced by brains under extreme stress. Then, Dr. Alexander’s own brain was attacked by a rare illness. The part of the brain that controls thought and emotion shut down completely. For seven days he lay in a coma. Then Alexander’s eyes popped open. He had come back. Alexander’s recovery is a medical miracle. But the real miracle of his story lies elsewhere.

Better than I expected!
Revisado: 10-26-16
I love the show Fixer Upper but I like this book even better, I started watching Fixer Upper after I saw a commercial for it. I couldn't get enough of Joanna. She is a dead ringer for my daughter-they could be twins. I like the show so well that I wanted to know more about them and their "history." The book didn't dissapoint. It was even better than I imagined it would be. I will definitely read it again and recommend it to all my friends!
