A game changer
Revisado: 04-24-25
It ties together eastern and western beliefs in a easy to understand way. I find myself thinking about the ideas presented long afterwards.

Historia
In 1942, the Gestapo sent out an urgent transmission: "She is the most dangerous of all Allied spies. We must find and destroy her." The target in their sights was Virginia Hall, a Baltimore socialite who talked her way into Special Operations Executive, the spy organization dubbed Winston Churchill's "Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare." She became the first Allied woman deployed behind enemy lines and - despite her prosthetic leg - helped to light the flame of the French Resistance, revolutionizing secret warfare as we know it.

Inspiring story and cautionary tale
Revisado: 03-07-25
Great story and well told. A tale we need not forget lest we let fascism return. Definitely worth the listen.

Not bad, but not as fresh as 100 year old man was. But makes a few good points here and there.

Historia
Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television "family."

A cautionary tale I almost know verbatim I’ve read it so often
Revisado: 01-01-24
He first wrote the idea for this story after getting lost in a university library. Just walking around pulling out a paper or book, realizing his love affair with literature. Something we all can empathize with I imagine.
The way this story is written it all too believable I’m afraid. This and Orwells 1984 is something that still resonates loudly.

Would have, could have, should have
Revisado: 10-21-23
This looks like it might have been a good story, if it was done right. I looked at it to see if Philip K Dick was worth using a credit or reading a book. Sadly this really doesn’t help to determine much. It’s hard to listen to.
The story was taken off the web by Amazon, (it’s in the public domain) then commercials were added, beginning and end, and the story was never finished. It just seemed to stop.
Now I’ve paid for Amazon and Audible, as well as a couple of other things that I didn’t know was added and I was paying for.
Amazon is getting quite greedy. As well as very carried away. Ya think they’d have made enough $$. They don’t pay dividends on their shares.. well, now I’m getting carried away.

Historia
If you think the only thing Ellison writes is speculative fiction, craziness about giant cockroaches that attack Detroit, or invaders from space who look like pink eggplant and smell like chicken soup, this dynamite novel of the emergent days of rock and roll will turn you around at least three times. No spaceships, no robots, just a nice kid from Louisville named Stag Preston with a voice like an angel, seductive moves like the devil, and an invisible monkey named Success riding him straight to hell.

An interesting read, if only from a historical viewpoint
Revisado: 09-21-23
You can tell right away that society, and especially the author, looked at things differently. Also, he seems to have a type when it comes to a hero. Tarzan being his other run away favorite.

At first, only a few things are known about the celestial object that astronomers dub Rama. It is huge, weighing more than ten trillion tons. And it is hurtling through the solar system at inconceivable speed. Then a space probe confirms the unthinkable: Rama is no natural object. It is, incredibly, an interstellar spacecraft. Space explorers and planet-bound scientists alike prepare for mankind's first encounter with alien intelligence.

He really shows his chops here. His subtle sense of humor, his knowledge and foresight -things he has been known for his entire career are present. While there are things that remind me of his very very early work. Written during WW1 and right after. All around great stuff!

Ruined a decent attempt at a story line
Revisado: 06-18-23
Dune was a great book! I think I read it three times so far in my life. I haven’t picked it up for 20 years, maybe I will. And this was a decent attempt at wrapping up a whole lot of loose ends that was left when Frank Herbert died. Unfortunately, I picked up this audible version and the recording was so bad it ruined it. It was very hard to let yourself go into the story when it’s annoying just to listen. This often isn’t the case with a lot of audible stories, but this was terrible. I think I want my money back.
