a fantasy classic
Revisado: 09-08-24
I really enjoyed revisiting this classic. It has a unique setting that mixes both modern era as well as a Renaissance fantasy setting. There are plenty of strange worlds through out the series but this book focused mainly on those two settings. The intrigued and betrayal between the main characters provides a lot of good tension in the story and really keeps the stakes high for the otherwise overpowered main characters.

Ex-fighter pilot Cowboy, "hardwired" via skull sockets directly to his lethal electronic hardware, teams up with Sarah, an equally cyborized gun-for-hire, to make a last stab at independence from the rapacious Orbitals.

stellar cyber punk thriller from a golden age
Revisado: 08-30-24
This is a lengthy story with a lot of action and violence and weird transhumanism cliques and power structures. The voice actor is superb, I cannot imagine any other voice for Cowboy.

For millennia, the Shaa have subjugated the universe, forcing the myriad sentient races to bow to their joyless tyranny. But the Shaa will soon be no more. The Dread Empire is in its rapidly fading twilight, and with its impending fall comes the promise of a new galactic order...and bloody chaos. A young Terran naval officer marked by his lowly birth, Lt. good characters and interesting setting
Revisado: 02-08-24
This novel scratches the space opera itch. A galaxy-spanning and ancient imperial civilization. A class system of peerage and the follies of lineage over merit in determining status and station. Deeply flawed protagonist that you still find yourself cheering for. It's a fun read and I recommend it.

2nd book is better than the first
Revisado: 01-06-24
I almost didn't get past the first book, it's ok. definitely and interesting idea. but the 2nd book improves a lot on the character personalities and on the description of the action. And the plot thickens with this installment

Historia
Golan Trevize, former councilman of the First Foundation, has chosen the future, and it is Gaia. A superorganism, Gaia is a holistic planet with a common consciousness so intensely united that every dewdrop, every pebble, every being, can speak for all - and feel for all. It is a realm in which privacy is not only undesirable, it is incomprehensible. But is it the right choice for the destiny of mankind? While Trevize feels it is, that is not enough. He must know.

one of the weakest of the series
Revisado: 10-05-22
Foundation and Earth presents some intriguing ideas on a galaxy wide scale. And Asimov covers some deep philosophical topics with a great deal of thought. Yet the novel is diminished by the constant bickering of the main characters and a group of so-called friends who are too rigid in their thinking to set aside difference or rein in petty retorts. It is a sad and shallow slice of life with people at their worst. It's not unrealistic but it is not something that I find enjoyable to helplessly stand by and observe. Unfortunately you must read this to get some closure, as small as it is, on the story are of the Foundation series.
The narration is bad. Often the dialog is read with a weird mechanical cadence that isn't used in the rest of the narration. The narrator's voice has a deep buzzing timbre that can be difficult to hear at times. Overall I strongly recommend avoiding the audiobook and read this for yourself if you must read it at all.

A hilarious loser's adventure
Revisado: 04-09-19
Yahtzee's narration is worth the price of admission alone. The story is thick with sarcasm and mocking tone, which comes through Yahtzee's voice like he was born to be a bitter, sneering doint.
