I came upon this book knowing very little, and this book has changed me. I am no expert nor reviewer but as a horror lover this to me feels like literary horror, very heavy on the horror.

The writing and the story deeply impacted me, I don’t think I’ve felt so much emotion for a character as I did for Margot in years. Her voice was so powerful and genuine, I became emotionally invested and had to pause several times and put the book down because I didn’t want it to end.

I have since read some reviews complaining about the ending and the pacing but I absolutely disagree I thought it fell right in line with the story. I felt it was very well paced and I never lost interest, I was just afraid. I absolutely didn’t expect the ending (and I’d been trying to imagine how this would end) but I really loved it and it made me cry. It was terrible and beautiful in the best ways

I can’t believe this is a debut novel, it was so polished and beautiful while showing the often ugly complexity of humanity, mother daughter relationships, coming of age, toxic relationships…

This is my top book of 2025 and I will read Lucy Rose’s next book sight unseen.

This story was so well done, I was invested in Mary and her inner world. And Nadine was so well written, I could feel her. I’m a sucker for great storytelling, and this book is exactly that. Looking forward to Cassidy’s next novel

This was so intricate and complicated, very well done. I was certain I had it figured out at several points in the story. I was wrong. This was a rollercoaster. At points I was sure I’d found a plot hole or continuity error only to be proven wrong. This was really well executed. The chapters are short and kept me gripped the entire time. I finished this in less than 3 days. I’ll be reading more of this author for sure.

I feel so lost

Ten Stars. This book was extremely stressful, and harrowing. It broke me repeatedly. I was desperate for it to end and to never end at the same time.

I haven’t been so emotionally invested in a story in a long time. It is a good thing that we learn from the very beginning that Maddy survives (from page 1) because I don’t know if I could have continued the story not knowing. I might have fallen apart from the worrying.

This book made me angry. I was right there with her the whole time. All the characters were so well fleshed out. If you aren’t sure about picking this one up let me stop you right there. It is absolutely worth the journey. Stop reading reviews and READ THIS BOOK

Terrible and beautiful story

This was incredibly compelling and well written, but very upsetting and disturbing. It needs to be read. Highly recommend anything by Colson Whitehead, especially The Underground Railroad

TEN STARS, Even better than The Martian

I was terribly hesitant to read this one, as I loved The Martian but really didn’t enjoy Artemis at all. If you fell similarly, let me put your fears at ease because this story has everything you loved about The Martian and so much more. Stop reading this review, just go in blind. You will not regret it. This book made me laugh and cry and google high school physics and biology. Stop reading reviews and pick this one up
