Stayed up so late listening to this wonderful story
Revisado: 03-13-25
Loved the story and performance. Rarely do I like two point of view stories but the characters are distinct in writing and the performance brings that through as well. Such an incredible story of action, romance, and even humor.

Entrancing story and exceptional performance. The character is a self described “hopeless romantic” and the book will give readers of a similar nature many engaging moments.

Historia
Having a mom like Izzy meant Mia had to grow up fast. No extracurriculars, no inviting friends over, and definitely no dating. The most important rule: Tell no one of Izzy’s hunger—the kind only blood can satisfy. But Mia is in her twenties now and longs for a life of her own. One where she doesn’t have to worry about anyone discovering their terrible secret, or breathing down her neck. When Mia meets rebellious musician Jade she dares to hope she’s found a way to leave her home—and her mom—behind. It just might be Mia’s only chance of getting out alive.

Enthralling story and incredible narrator
Revisado: 06-02-24
Loved this take on the vampire genre, which cycles between then main character as a 10 year old during a viral lockdown & her as an adult navigating life & romance as a late bloomer. The author has an amazing ability to create dread! Best book I’ve encountered in a long while.

Historia
In the world’s most magical metropolis where spirits run noodle shops and cash-strapped dragons stage photo-ops for tourists, people still think fairies are nothing but stories, and that’s exactly how the fairies like it. It’s a lot easier to feast on humanity’s dreams when no one believes you exist. But while this arrangement works splendidly for most fair folk, Lola isn’t one of the lucky ones.

Enjoyable, bittersweet moments
Revisado: 12-07-23
The high fantasy of past DFZ stories with sad themes of loss, alienation, and feeling trapped. More going on than the usual “magical world” / Shadowrun-style setting. Narration excellent.

Nice change from generic fantasy, doesn’t have the obnoxious “read a character sheet” convention, characters thin but acceptable for setting. Has some good imagery and surprises, could be good manga like delicious in dungeon.

It was bad enough when Henghis Hapthorn, Old Earth's foremost discriminator and die-hard empiricist, had to accept that the cosmos was shortly to rewrite its basic operating system, replacing rational cause-and-effect with detestable magic. Now he finds himself cast forward several centuries, stranded in a primitive world of contending wizards and hungry dragons, and without his magic-savvy alter ego.
