Historia
White rural voters hold the greatest electoral sway of any demographic group in the United States, yet rural communities suffer from poor healthcare access, failing infrastructure, and severe manufacturing and farming job losses. Rural voters believe our nation has betrayed them, and to some degree, they’re right. In White Rural Rage, Tom Schaller and Paul Waldman explore why rural Whites have failed to reap the benefits from their outsize political power and why, as a result, they are the most likely group to abandon democratic norms and traditions.

blatantly racist against white people
Revisado: 05-06-25
openly racist against white people. if this were so blatantly racist against any other group, books like this would be de-platformed. I actually agree with many of the arguments laid down in this book, but the stereotyping of white Americans is just too much. I'm a native Californian and life long democratic voter. This book just crosses the line, for me.

Historia
Meghan, Brecia, and Skye have just one thing in common. They were all murdered by the same man. He hunted them online, masquerading as an eligible bachelor. Then he played the perfect gentleman, a thick layer of charm and a thousand-watt smile hiding the fact that his first dates end in shallow graves. He’s gotten away with murder three times now. The only thing that might keep him from killing again? The women he murdered. Meghan, Brecia, and Skye might be dead, but they’re not gone. They’ve found each other. And they won’t rest until they find a way to stop him. The haunt is on.

What a great story! Very original, with well rounded and likeable characters
Revisado: 01-24-25
I absolutely loved this book. I drive 3,000 miles every week for work, so I have tons of time to listen to audio books. A friend who retired in Spain actually recommended this one and I trust her great taste in books, so of course I immediately looked for it on audible.com. It held my attention from the first page to the last. I appreciate the deep character development and the new twist on a possible afterlife I found absolutely delightful. This author did an amazing job and as soon as I finish this little review, I'm going to look for more of her work.

Lame, lazy ending
Revisado: 06-16-24
The book was ok and the narration was actually pretty good. By the end, I was really invested in the story. But then it just abruptly ended, with no resolution, no plot twist, no surprise, no ending at all, just nothing. What an utter waste of time! It was like "And then there was a knock on the door....the end." Seriously??? Waste. Of. Time.

Historia
In Chicago, aka "Chiraq", the first 10 days of 2016 yielded 120 people shot. Baltimore's 2015 ended as its bloodiest and deadliest year - on a per capita basis. In 2014 Detroit's police chief called upon law-abiding citizens to take arms against its burgeoning violent, criminal subculture. Unfortunately these cities aren't anomalies. Year after year a seemingly unshakable reality of violence plagues Black communities nationwide.

"Birfday" and "wifout."" lol.
Revisado: 01-31-22
I couldn't get through the second chapter. Calling the Democratic Party the "Democrat Party" is just as annoying as when liberal speakers call Republicans "Republi-cons." It's a big red flag that I'm listening to a purely partisan screed. Not to mention the author/narrator's lazy pronunciation of simple words. "Birfday" "Wifout" "etc. Ugh! Don't waste your money or time on this sophomoric crap.

Historia
Psychologist and expert witness Dr. Sharon Lamb evaluates parents, particularly in high-stakes cases concerning the termination of parental rights. The conclusions she reaches can mean that some children are returned home from foster homes. Others are freed for adoption. Well-trained, Lamb generally can decide what's in the best interests of the child. But when her son's struggle with opioid addiction comes to light, she starts to doubt her right to make judgments about other mothers.

I loved the honesty in this book
Revisado: 12-05-20
I really liked this book. I was one of those "not good enough" mothers 20 years ago. I was an addict and was judged by all to be unfit to raise my 2 and 3 year old babies. It was devastating. I did not disagree, however, when the children's therapist recommended to the court that my two toddlers would be better off with another family. The therapist and the social worker sat on either side of me in court, holding my hands as I choked out the words "I submit." I relinquished my parental rights and it was the most heart-wrenching decision of my young life.
The author's compassion for parents who struggle with addiction combined with her focus on the best interest of the children involved is refreshingly non-judgemental.
End note: I have been 100% clean and sober for 17 years now. No Suboxone crutch, no relapses. My children, now ages 22 and 23, sought me out as soon as they became adults. We picked up right where we left off, albeit with 15 years of catching up to do.

Historia
The year is 2033. The world has been reduced to rubble. Humanity is nearly extinct and the half-destroyed cities have become uninhabitable through radiation. Beyond their boundaries, they say, lie endless burned-out deserts and the remains of splintered forests. Survivors still remember the past greatness of humankind, but the last remains of civilisation have already become a distant memory. Man has handed over stewardship of the earth to new life-forms. A few score thousand survivors live on, not knowing whether they are the only ones left on Earth....
