Historia
For decades, December 21, 2012, has been a touchstone for doomsayers worldwide. It is the date, they claim, when the ancient Maya calendar predicts the world will end. In Los Angeles, two weeks before, all is calm. Dr. Gabriel Stanton takes his usual morning bike ride, drops off the dog with his ex-wife, and heads to the lab where he studies incurable prion diseases for the CDC. His first phone call is from a hospital resident who has an urgent case she thinks he needs to see.

What a snooze!
Revisado: 09-01-12
Still amazed the author managed to combine so many great themes ~ Prions! Mayan prophecy! Plague! ~ into such dull matter. Unfortunately the narrators didn't or couldn't elevate clumsy writing. Snore.

Historia
Nothing makes Portland detective Archie Sheridan happier than knowing that Gretchen Lowell - the serial killer whose stunning beauty is belied by the gruesome murders she’s committed - is locked away in a psych ward. Archie can finally heal from the near-fatal physical and emotional wounds she’s inflicted on him and start moving on with his life. To this end, Archie throws himself into the latest case to come across his desk: A cyclist has discovered a corpse in Mount Tabor Park on the eastern side of Portland. The man was gagged, skinned, and found hanging by his wrists from a tree....

She's Back!
Revisado: 08-09-12
If like me, you've enjoyed this series but felt a profound lack of Gretchen in 'The Night Season' the 4th & last book, you'll be happy to find her central to the plot of this latest installment. The tidbits we learn about her past help fill in how the beauty killer came to be, and Archie is as complex & brilliantly troubled as always.

Historia
A mind-bending, genre-twisting debut novel. In West Akron, there lived a reclusive elderly man who always wore mittens, even in July. He had no friends and no family; all over town, he was known only as The the Man from Primrose Lane. And on a summer day in 2008, someone murdered him.

Good read, despite, not because of sci fi twist
Revisado: 07-18-12
I never fully settled into this book because I was looking forward to a 'cold crime mystery' read, not a detour into the twilight zone. That said, the writer is clearly talented and while the sci fi angle never quite gelled for me, I was entertained and would try another of the authors efforts.

Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Revisado: 06-18-12
The glowing reviews are well deserved. A most enjoyable and engaging ride. You won't be wasting your credit, and you'll probably get more than one repeat listen. Even if you didn't grow up in the 80's, and/or play video games, this fun and goofy fast paced tale is bound to hold your attention, making you cheer the good guys and boo the baddies!

A goofy gory read that eventually bores
Revisado: 05-31-12
Would you try another book from Ryan C. Thomas and/or Macleod Andrews?
No, the writing is pedestrian, perhaps aimed at teens, but over the top gore makes it slightly too graphic for that age group.
Has Hissers turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, just this author.
What three words best describe Macleod Andrews???s performance?
waste of talent
You didn???t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
this book was a great reminder not to squander credits
Any additional comments?
I love a good zombie tale, this unfortunately was not one... the overly simplistic writing and plot never made me care or feel anything for the protagonists, who seemed cardboard cutouts of teen cliches. I have certainly downloaded worse, thus the 2 stars, but I encourage you to listen to a sample before buying.

Historia
In December 1893, Sherlock Holmes-adoring Londoners eagerly opened their Strand magazines-- anticipating the detective's next adventure-- only to find the unthinkable: his creator, Arthur Conan Doyle, had killed their hero off. London spiraled into mourning -- crowds sported black armbands in grief -- and railed against Conan Doyle as his assassin.

Surprisingly average & unmysterious (2.5 stars)
Revisado: 12-31-10
i'm no Holmes buff but enjoy unraveling a good tale ...
That said I was surprised how quickly the modern plots mystery was to figure out, with it's clunky obvious clues and alarming lack of red herrings.
I believe if you made the main 'Sherlockian' character female, it'd be your average Life Time TV mystery movie.
The narrator does a great job of elevating the story, especially as Doyle & Stoker. Despite this effort the story falls into the 'flat & unsatisfying' list.

Historia
NYPD detective Jacob Kanon is on a tour of Europe's most gorgeous cities. But the sights aren't what draw him - he sees each museum, each cathedral, and each cafe through the eyes of his daughter's killer. Kanon's daughter, Kimmy, and her boyfriend were murdered while on vacation in Rome. Since then, young couples in Paris, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, and Stockholm have been found dead. Little connects the murders other than a postcard to the local newspaper that precedes each new victim.

the Swedish reporter angle is distracting... it almost reads like Patterson had some"Girl w/ the Dragon Tattoo" envy.

Historia
Money certainly changes Jenner Redwine’s life when she wins a lottery jackpot. But it also costs her plenty: Her father rips her off and disappears, her fortune-hunting boyfriend soon becomes her ex, and friends-turned-freeloaders give her the cold shoulder when she stops paying for everything. Flush with new money, Jenner can’t imagine ever finding a place in the world of the wealthy. Seven years later, though, she’s rubbing elbows with the rich, despite the fact she still feels like a party crasher.

silly fun light reading
Revisado: 08-12-09
if you're looking for a light simple book you don't really need to pay attention fully to, then this is easy listen to finish the summer out with. It's entertaining.it's a Life Time channel movie in waiting.
I admit to finding the beginning of the books back story more compelling then the 'action' and silly love story that comprise most of the listen.

"yikes"
Revisado: 02-28-09
This may fall under the 'Christian fiction' umbrella, but def not horror, that seems a disrespect to S. King and others.
that said...this hole filled, pedestrian, excruciatingly boring yarn, written on an 8th grade level, was pure drivel. not to mention oddly and quietly racist.
Going to actual church would be much more edifying than this piece of scare'um to god approach. This kind of formula pulp made for a dreary listen.
That said in its defense, I had no idea I stumbled on a 'genre' book, with i suppose, Gods light being the deux ex machina of every tale.
