Good Story, Hope the Narrator improves
Revisado: 08-19-22
Listen to the sample narration, because the narration is going to be consistent throughout.
I enjoyed the manga version of the story, and the text of the light novel is good.
Production quality is good, too. I couldn't give a 3 star "Pretty Good" because the narrator's voice has room to improve. He's not bad, just ... Every now and again there's a staccato cadence to his reading, and I'm not sure if he's got a natural slur or an accent that swallows some of the consonants. Also, there's a lot of sound effects in the text that come across as being over the top as they're acted out. Some of the names are also similar like the main character Jin-Woo and one of the secondary character Ju-Hee, which can be hard to tell apart in the narrator's diction.
This is still a good listen.

Was not expecting a slow Boys Love story
Revisado: 12-31-21
This starts as a bro-mance, revealing a fair amount of world building back story and moving the world forward. With about an hour, hour and a half till the end of the recording, the bro-mance turns to romance, and it just feels forced. I don't even want to finish listening, in no small part because I'm not a fujoshi. Boys Love/yaoi/gay romance is not the genre I expected from this series, and the publisher's summary gave no hint at the genre switch.

so much face palming
Revisado: 01-10-19
This is perhaps the first time I've listened to a romance story where the hero is an oblivious jackass who doesn't get smacked into growing up at some point. in general, the plotting was juvenile. on the bright side, the grammar as read was clear. the narrator was also a mismatch, sounding more like a grandfather than anything else, which made the awkward love scene more awkward, though he did a professional job with clear diction, interesting tonal modulation, and maintaining a consistent volume and pace.

Can't wait for more of Hugh's story!
Revisado: 08-03-18
Just finished listening and I think I've found a new favorite among the stories Ilona Andrews relates! I won't give away plot points, but Hugh's transformation from antagonist's henchman to leading protagonist is handled beautifully, his POV of events in the Kate Daniel's series providing believable insights into the humanity he managed to hold on to despite being Roland's slave. Only thing that could have been better would have been if Mr. West had listened to Ms. Raudman's handling of the KD characters. His take on Hugh is fabulous, though.

Very Nearly 5 Stars
Revisado: 07-16-18
I laughed, I chortled, I snerked, and I sympathy-flinched-and-groaned while reading this. Then I bought the Audible edition and enjoyed it all over again, with the narrator's timing and intonation adding in a few moments of choking-on-my-drink-startled-hilarity. The only thing holding me back from giving this title a perfect 5 is the vulgarity. If you're comfortable with profane language and lewd descriptions, this is a laugh your @$$ off read. If you aren't, well, the lewd depictions can usually be forwarded through in 10s or so without losing important story points. By the by, that's NOT a complaint - the story and the style it's told in are a great pairing. The lewdness is both character- and plot- appropriate. Just, preview it before sharing with the teenager crowd.

Good - In Context
Revisado: 06-27-18
This may be the first WoW Lore book available in an Audible format, but it is far from the first of the World of Warcraft Lore books. If you don't play the game, don't start here. If you do play WoW, the in-game lore should give you enough context to appreciate the points that get glossed over -- like who Malfurion and Tyrande are and why they even get a mention in this book.

Historia
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a well-tested collection of practical techniques for managing moods and modifying undesirable behaviors through self-awareness, critical analysis, and goal-oriented change. CBT illuminates the links between thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and physical health and uses those connections to develop concrete plans for self-improvement. In 24 engaging half-hour lectures, you'll build a robust and effective self-improvement toolkit with the expert guidance of Professor Satterfield of the University of California, San Francisco.

Great Introduction
Revisado: 05-18-18
First and foremost, addressing the negative reviewers: It's twelve hours and it covers how CBT is used in various applications. It is not blanket therapy. Do not expect *personalized* guidance to better mental health. If you are seeking some kind of therapy, whether formal or informal, the last lecture is worth spending a credit for as he directly addresses how to separate the "smoke and mirrors" idiocy from substantive information.
If you're trying to figure out, "Is this the approach you want to take?" then this is an excellent overview of what to expect from a CBT therapist. Dr. Satterfield presents the core concept of CBT - the interaction of cognition (thoughts & expectations), emotions, and behaviors - in very clear, direct language. He doesn't throw jargon around, doesn't obscure what he's saying in technobabble, and does provide examples of what the therapy sessions he runs look like.

the book is based on the Web comic series, and manages to capture most of the mad cap illustrations of the comic while providing details that the comic format is not suited to showcasing. the comic is at girlgenius.com. there are some minor continuity conflicts between the comics and this novelization, but minor enough that you can page through the comic while listening to the book.

Well told history of voting rights activism
Revisado: 10-31-16
There's a lot of information in here, but Berman keeps it grounded in the story of the people working to expand voting access. There were some dense parts to the material being covered, but that's one of the things that makes for a good non-fiction piece -- when you have to stop and really consider what you're reading/hearing in the moment.
