Historia
Omar Nelson Bradley was the youngest and last of nine men to earn five-star rank and the only army officer so honored after World War II. This new biography by Steven L. Ossad gives an account of Bradley’s formative years, his decorated career, and his postwar life. Bradley’s decisions shaped the five Northwest European Campaigns from the D-Day landings to VE Day. As the man who successfully led more Americans in battle than any other in our history, his long-term importance would seem assured.

Great information, narrated strangely.
Revisado: 03-19-21
I enjoyed the information and historical knowledge, but the narrator distracted me with bad accents and weird inflections. I don't know why he felt the need to imitate general Bradley, Patton, Eisenhower, Montgomery, and even some of the German and Russian generals. It was very distracting to hear a horrible English accent when using the word "quote" would have been so much easier and given the same information. Also, the Bradley imitation was pretty bad, and made him sound like a dork.
He also had strange inflections and put emphasis on words in weird ways. It was just distracting and bothered me, because it was totally unnecessary.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate it. Like I said, the information was great, and I really learned a lot. I think it should just be read as a biography, not a fictional drama.

Historia
In this classic portrait of Dwight D. Eisenhower the soldier, best-selling historian Stephen E. Ambrose examines the Allied commander's leadership during World War II. Ambrose brings Eisenhower's experience of the Second World War to life, showing in vivid detail how the general's skill as a diplomat and a military strategist contributed to Allied successes in North Africa and in Europe and established him as one of the greatest military leaders in the world.

Fair Biography of a great general
Revisado: 02-28-21
Oftentimes a biographer will either gloss over, or entirely exclude controversial decisions or comments about their subject. Stephen Ambrose does not do that. Understanding that the general made mistakes is an honest view of an imperfect man who accomplished extraordinary things. I am thankful for the complete picture of Eisenhower that this book provides.

Historia
Warrior and writer, genius and crank, rider in the British cavalry’s last great charge and inventor of the tank - Winston Churchill led Britain to fight alone against Nazi Germany in the fateful year of 1940 and set the standard for leading a democracy at war. Like no other portrait of its famous subject, Forty Ways to Look at Winston Churchill is a dazzling display of facts more improbable than fiction, and an investigation of the contradictions and complexities that haunt biography.

Two-Sided look at Churchill
Revisado: 12-16-20
I really like a biographer that doesn't shy away from controversial information and/or problems that the subject of the biography is about, and yet also fairly represents that subject. Churchill was obviously not a perfect man, but he was probably the perfect man for the situation that 1940's Europe found itself in. Gretchen Rubin breaks down his life into neatly divided categories and gives both sides of those categories, leaving the reader to make his or her own conclusions. She's obviously a fan of Churchill, but doesn't ignore the more dubious aspects of his life. Her excitement in telling the story comes through nicely and highlights some nuances about him well. Very enjoyable listen.
