Historia
An unexpected death on a lonely road outside of Utah’s Bears Ears National Park raises questions for Navajo Tribal Police officers Jim Chee and Bernadette Manuelito. Why would a seasoned outdoorsman and well-known paleontologist freeze to death within walking distance of his car? A second death brings more turmoil. Who is the unidentified man killed during a home invasion where nothing seems to have been taken? Why was he murdered? An illicit business, a fossilized jaw bone, hints of witchcraft, and a mysterious disappearance during a blizzard add to the peril.

Unfortunately, the narrator was distracting. She had a good grasp of the Navajo language, but often in English she stopped in the middle of a phrase and separated words that should not have been separated. She also mispronounced a few words in English. It was distracting.

A bit too much of a good thing
Revisado: 10-28-24
Too much repetitive review of who Eve is and why, but a good fast moving plot and character development of Eve.

Narrator inappropriate
Revisado: 06-13-23
I very much enjoyed the first two books, but this one was disappointing because of the narrator’s voice. It was way too young. I had become acustommed to Mrs. Rodd being an older woman, and this narrator is entirely too young. It wasn’t believable. She did an OK job, but she just wasn’t the right narrator for the story. I hope the next book will go back to the first narrator, or try someone else who is able to use a more mature voice for Mrs. Rodd.

Historia
Among the most celebrated and beloved novels of 2021, Anthony Doerr’s gorgeous third novel is a triumph of imagination and compassion, a soaring story about children on the cusp of adulthood in worlds in peril, who find resilience, hope—and a book. In Cloud Cuckoo Land, Doerr has created a magnificent tapestry of times and places that reflects our vast interconnectedness—with other species, with each other, with those who lived before us, and with those who will be here after we’re gone.

End of story
Revisado: 05-31-23
I was very happy until Leticia decided to go on the boat alone instead of giving her ticket to someone who wouldn’t be recognized. There wasn’t adequate explanation about why she took that risk, but all the other logic of the book seemed pretty good. I just can’t stand it when characters do really stupid things even if they are heroic still, it was really fun to read loved the narrator, the accents, the calming attitude, despite murders at every turn of a page.

Historia
In the west end of London, an apparently crazed individual is on the loose, breaking into art galleries and private homes to slash valuable paintings of women. Despite Scotland Yard's best efforts, the criminal remains at large and continues on his destructive path. When Joanna and the Watsons are called in to solve the mystery, they soon discover that although the canvases have been slashed, their backings remain pristine, with no cuts or scratches. The criminal, it seems, is no mere vandal - he's searching for something hidden behind the portraits.

Slow repetitive development
Revisado: 11-18-20
The complex plot was interesting, but it proceeded much too slowly. Information was repeated and repeated by and for other characters, as if the reader could not keep track of the threads of the clues in the plot. In addition, some glaring language was repeated as well: “we all leaned forward so we would not miss a word“ must have been repeated 3-4 times.

American accents?
Revisado: 01-21-19
I am not an expert, but I enjoyed all of the accents except the American ones. They seemed way over-exaggerated to the point that they distracted me from listening. I persisted because the writing was so great in the insides were wonderful. I learned a lot.

Narrator error
Revisado: 07-08-18
I love the stories, but unfortunately, toward the end of this book the narrator began to mix the pronouns he and she. He constantly said he said when he should have said she said. He did this starting with Pat, and also with the following female character, I think it was Libby? It was the friend of Domenica who was cohosting the pygmies. I believe he further confused the he and she pronouns later in the book as well. This was really very distracting, and it was a little hard to keep track of who was speaking.
Other than that, the story was typically heartwarming and worth the confused pronouns!
