I'm a blind individual so although I do enjoy online games, I'm limited to interactive fiction and multiuser dungeons, relics from the 90S and early 2000S. When I discovered the genre of lit rpg, I thought it would allow me to live vicariously through protagonists created for these sorts of stories. Wow! I must say that this was an excellent introduction to the genre. It was fast-paced, humorous, and engaging. I was hooked from the beginning when the main character, Carl, was gruff and somewhat unrefined and cursed like a sailor. When his cat becomes a talking cat, they became a true partnership, and despite their inevitable clashes, they worked together, making up for one another's skill deficits, to basically stick it to the folks who are running the game that these characters found themselves in. I was also blown away by the narrator. He is able to create voices that are believable and consistent throughout. Most impressive of all is his ability to perform female voices. If you're looking for a great intro to this genre and don't mind some colorful language, this one is a keeper. I couldn't put it down and read it in a single day, and this is from a gal who regularly skips to the ending of a story to see how the story wraps up because the middle seems like so much reading to do for what feels like so little reward.

I had my doubts about selecting this title, but I wasn't feeling excited about any of the Audible Original selections this month. I decided to listen to a sample of this play, and when I heard the Grim Reaper and the fictional President Murray discussing his impending demise, I was hooked. It was humorous, heartwarming, and thought-provoking, too. Listening to this play will (hopefully) make you ask yourself how you would spend your last day, if you knew that by it's conclusion, you would leave the land of the living. Will you spend it trying to make a name for yourself? Will you reconcile with your loved ones? Will you indulge in all the pleasures this life has to offer? With an engaging story filled with plenty of comic relief, stellar voice acting, and superb sound design, this Audible original definitely deserves a place in any Audible library.

This story was more than just the retelling of a Christmas Carol from Jacob Marley's perspective. It expanded upon the original classic and interwove Dickens' tale with twists from the author's own imagination. I laughed, got angry, and wept, as I watched both Marley's and Scrooge's redemptions. It's definitely a story to be read during the holidays which reminds us that love, forgiveness, and hope exist, and we are all able to right our wrongs. I enjoyed this story immensely and was glad I picked it up when it was featured as a Daily Deal.

Practical, Realistic, and Healthy Approach

This physician laid out a practical, realistic approach to weight loss that didn't promise miracles and didn't attempt to promote some gimmick. It is designed to work with any eating plan you decide to adopt so that it can fit into your lifestyle, instead of the other way around. Dr. Freedhoff believes that we aren't meant to fit into boxes. Rather, each of us has a personal best, based on our own circumstances. One takeaway for me was that life must include chocolate. Some days, I might want the whole bar, and that's okay, but on another day, I may be happy with just a bite or two. As for exercise, he believes that we ought to do as much as we can honestly enjoy, and if some days, that's walking up a few flights of stairs instead of taking the elevator, instead of pounding the pavement for an hour, then so be it.
On a side note, Dr. Freedhoff, who narrates this book, has a voice reminiscent of Lieutenant Geordi La Forge, which makes the book even more enjoyable for me.

Freakonomics: An Intriguing Read

Freakonomics was a very fascinating book to read. The author linked economic principles such as the principle of incentives with everyday situations that the reader could identify with. Each chapter addresses a question, such as, "What Do Public School Teachers and Sumo-Wrestlers Have in Common?" The book discusses some controversial issues, such as the corelation between falling crime rates and legalized abortion, discrimination on the television show "The Weakest Link", and the supposed multi-million dollar cocaine drug dealing industry. Economic principles are presented in a humorous and enlightening way. The narrator also did a wonderful job reading the text, and seemed very engaged in the material.
