Historia
Of Human Bondage is one of the greatest novels of modern times, and it is certainly Maugham's greatest achievement. It was published in 1914, when Maugham was at the height of his creative powers. The story concerns Philip Carey, afflicted at birth with a club foot, and his passionate search for truth in a cruel world. We follow his growth to manhood, his educational progress, his first loves, and the wrenching tragedies and disappointments that life has in store for him. In some of the finest prose of the 20th century, Maugham has presented us with the timeless story of one man's search for the meaning of life.

I must not be smart literate enough to appreciate
Revisado: 09-17-17
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
If you enjoy being depressed or bored this book is for you. This book is a favorite, though for many readers, who no doubt, find lengthy sentences about a reclusive man who had a brief love affair, mentally explores, bemoans his lack of social skills,.
Has Of Human Bondage turned you off from other books in this genre?
I will continue to read classics.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Charlton Griffin?
Dull. or maybe he just followed the tone of the character.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Of Human Bondage?
I'd cut all the paragraphs during which he basically complains about the same things the character complained about on the last page.
Any additional comments?
I couldn't finish.

Loved the characters and the story
Revisado: 05-05-13
Would you listen to The Given Day again? Why?
I would listen to a story like this one in the future.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Given Day?
there were many memorable moments - I always enjoy when characters who lead separate lives come together and become part of the same story, when people of diverse cultures find more similarities than differences.
Which character – as performed by Michael Boatman – was your favorite?
There were a lot of fav characters.
If you could rename The Given Day, what would you call it?
It's a good title

Revisado: 05-05-13
Would you try another book from David McCullough and/or Edward Herrmann?
no.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
don't know, didn't finish it.
Have you listened to any of Edward Herrmann’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I haven't listened to others and probably won't I had expected more interesting people and more intrigue, relationships or plot. Seemed like a book of short stories of not so interesting people.
Do you think The Greater Journey needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I'd expected a book about the great artists who gathered in a Parisian café and to hear their conversations, see their lives and relationships. This read like a history book.

Historia
Seabiscuit was one of the most electrifying and popular attractions in sports history and the single biggest newsmaker in the world in 1938, receiving more coverage than FDR, Hitler, or Mussolini. But his success was a surprise to the racing establishment, which had written off the crooked-legged racehorse with the sad tail.

Horse race the jockey fell, each healed. Repeat.
Revisado: 03-25-12
What would have made Seabiscuit better?
Seabiscuit would have been better as a short story. After the first part when reporting on the life of the jockey, it was repetitive and dull. I couldn't wait for it to be over. Additionally I felt sorry for Seabiscuit. The owner, trainer and jockey just wouldn't let the horse rest until it stopped winning
What do you think your next listen will be?
I may listen to the second book of Hunger Games.
What about George Newbern’s performance did you like?
Performance was o.k. Not much emotion but then not much emotion wasn't needed.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Seabiscuit?
I would have cut details of each race and each of many times Seabiscuit was cut from the race because of rain.
Any additional comments?
Unless you are especially fond of horseracing, I'd pass this one up.
