Historia
Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special 12-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted fans of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.

Another Good One From Mr. King.
Revisado: 06-11-21
Though not as good as The Shining, this book holds up well and makes a damn fine sequel to the original. Don't watch the film.

Historia
Jack Torrance's new job at the Overlook Hotel is the perfect chance for a fresh start. As the off-season caretaker at the atmospheric old hotel, he'll have plenty of time to spend reconnecting with his family and working on his writing. But as the harsh winter weather sets in, the idyllic location feels ever more remote...and more sinister. And the only one to notice the strange and terrible forces gathering around the Overlook is Danny Torrance, a uniquely gifted five-year-old.

I'll admit this was hard to get through, seeing behind Jack's eyes. seeing his thoughts and slow descent into madness.

Splendid!
Revisado: 03-28-21
I'll admit I went into this without expectations. I don't like to compare an author's different works, but as a fan of the Cosmere, I couldn't help a little comparison. Seeing Sanderson's early work is astounding. This book is one of a kind, with a new form of magic, deeply involving characters, and an enveloping plot.
I highly recommend this.

Good Story, Terrible Narrator.
Revisado: 05-06-20
While this book is not nearly as enveloping and beautiful as the first three, it is a wonderful addition that ties up loose ends.
That said, I hated the narrator. She sounded almost computer generated, her different "voices" were bad, and when she put emotion anywhere in the character dialogue it was the wrong emotion. I made it through it, but I felt like it was just Google Assistant reading to me and I didn't like it.

Historia
For over 20 years, Belasco House has stood empty. Regarded as the Mt. Everest of haunted houses, its shadowed walls have witnessed scenes of unimaginable horror and depravity. All previous attempts to probe its mysteries have ended in murder, suicide, or insanity.
But now, a new investigation has been launched, bringing four strangers to Belasco House in search of the ultimate secrets of life and death. A wealthy publisher, brooding over his impending death, has paid a physicist and two mediums to establish the facts of life after death once and for all. For one night, they will investigate the Belasco House and learn exactly why the townsfolk refer to it as the Hell House.

Seriously Disturbing.
Revisado: 03-27-20
I love Matheson, but this is one I skipped for a long time. I do not like books about Hauntings or Possessions much. They tend to gear toward the gross out factor, or jump the shark for unnecessarily violent scenes that seem shoehorned in for shock value. The worst just drag on and rely too heavily on having a crazy, annoying protagonist.
I wish I could apologize to the author. While this book is rather heavy with gore, debauchery, and some violence, it plays it well with psychology and science. Matheson doesn't miss a beat in this book.
You'll be sickened, confused, intrigued and most of all, you'll be AFRAID.
A well done, well written, and well preformed story.
Ray Porter, as always, knocks it out of the park.

This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

Revisado: 03-27-20
I love this book, especially this version. I can almost promise that you will love every single moment.
Sweet and bitter, emotional and cold, "The Stand" will make you feel something new at every turn.
Even self-reflection.
Grover Gardener does an amazing job giving voice to this dark tale of Christianity.
Absolutely splendid.
