The characters are interesting and I do feel invested in their story. This book was a slight change from the first in perspective. The first book focused primarily on the female lead but this one expanded to include the perspective of the male lead. There are also a few dips into various side characters but they were relevant to the overall story.

The narrator was very good. Her voice was a good fit for the story and the delivery was excellent.

A great addition

I loved this book. This series has been very long, but I can honestly say that I still enjoy it. This addition to the series focuses on building friendships and repairing relationships. Kaylin is still the main focus but you get to learn more about the 12 and some of Kaylin’s name bound. You also see plenty of character development in both major and minor characters as well as the main character.

I was excited to hear/read the main plot pushed forward and several lingering subplots get addressed. We also got to hear/read more about shadow and some of the various other races that are still kicking around both in and out of the fiefs. The focus on friendship and what it means to the various characters was my absolute favorite part though.

I love this series. I don’t love every book equally but this one was amazing. I am sorry it is over and I will have to wait a year until I get to hear/read more about this world and Kaylin’s adventures.

A good prequel

I enjoyed this book. It added to the overall enjoyment of the series. It gave context and answered lingering questions that where something of a puzzle in the Elantra series. I don’t think it matters what order you read this book in however, it will make the Elantra series more enjoyable if you read it before book 7.

It was brilliant

I really enjoyed this book. It was unique and the world building amazing. It is rare that fantasy books convey character growth with such skill and emotion. I will definitely read more books written by this author.

It wasn’t bad

The story was typical of urban fantasy. Sexy female lead is hella good at something no one else is. She gets a male side kick who is super hot but not really an equal in whatever is going on in the book. She has a snarky best friend who tells off said male side kick for whatever and is only in the story to make sure the male stays firmly in the “not as good as the main character “ rut. Female lead almost dies to show she isn’t a Mary Sue but acts like a Mary Sue when not dying. There is romance with the male side kick that is based entirely on his looks then morphs into love because.... reasons?

Maybe I am being too critical, this book isn’t bad. It is just that I have read this same sort of book over and over again. The names of the female leads change along with their super amazing thing they do. The sexy male side kick has different hair and eyes but the same plot is there. This book is not at all different from most of the other urban fantasy out there. If you are bored and your looking for something to binge on, isn’t the worst thing you could buy.
