Good but overrated
Revisado: 09-30-22
This was fine. Interesting to have the back and forth between the 2 narrators. The plot could’ve gone 2 ways so I wasn’t “shocked” like some of the other listeners. Worth a credit but not amazing

Historia
Amber Patterson is fed up. She's tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more - a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted. To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne - a socialite and philanthropist - and her real-estate mogul husband, Jackson, are a couple straight out of a fairy tale. Amber's envy could eat her alive...if she didn't have a plan.

Good narrator totally predictable
Revisado: 07-03-19
Narrator did a good job of the different character voices. Totally average rating and a very predictable plot. Ended up skipping I had to the end to make sure that my assumptions were correct and they were. More like a Hallmark movie than gripping ping mystery

Great narrator old school mystery style not for me
Revisado: 09-22-17
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I'm not a huge fan of old school whodunnit mysteries where the detective brings everyone in a room together at the end to reveal all. Too contrived.
What was most disappointing about G. M. Malliet’s story?
Too many characters that I didn't care about. The killer was a minor character I didn't even remember!

"AND" author ruins another book
Revisado: 11-26-16
What is it about these good authors AND someone who ruin good stories? I've always liked the simplicity of Stuart Woods' books, but this was just stupid. Stone Barrington would never be involved with a guy like Teddy Faye who is basically killing everyone involved in the story. Nope. The narrator was ok but not a lot of differentiation.

Not sure who wouldn't see that coming. Very predictable storyline. Also weird to go to 2 narrators halfway through the story. Very good narrator though!

Tried hard to care but failed
Revisado: 11-03-15
With all of the great reviews I had high hopes for this book. Thought the main character would be an anti-hero similar to The Goldfinch but it wasn't. I didn't care about this guy at all. For a guy who loses his hand not much else happens. I think the narrator read it the way it was meant to be read which was too dry for my taste.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Got the impression that he painted himself into a corner a little bit on some of the plot pieces. It seemed like he was having trouble connecting the dots on some of these things. But overall a nice Baldacci listen.

Worse & worse
Revisado: 07-12-11
At first I thought the high school drama club narrator was the reason I didn't like this book. Her overly dramatic style does not lend itself to narration. The 1940s radio show sound track only adds to the ridiculous effect. In the end it's the dialogue and the plot though. There are very few pieces of this story that you haven't heard a million times before from far less talented writers than Patterson.

Revisado: 04-05-11
As disappointed as I was in the previous narrator - this woman is MUCH worse. I haven't even gotten to the male narrator part yet - not sure I can stomach it that far. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE ACCENTS! I may have to actually READ this book, but I have to know how the story ends after all of this time!
