Historia
When everything is on the line, how far will you go to protect those you love? What if the cost of saving them is your soul? Would you pay it? I thought I was prepared for what was coming; that if I made sacrifices, I could win this game. I’m no longer afraid of the darkness or the monsters that hide in the shadows. I’ve become what I feared most, allowing it in to protect those I loved. Sometimes it takes a monster to win. Sometimes to fight monsters, you have to become one. My only fear is…can I come back from it?

Witches, demons and all the sexy scenes!
Revisado: 08-09-21
This series is not for the faint of heart. If you're not into dominate alpha males, explicit sex scenes, magic, dark themes and a feisty heroine, then this is not the book for you. Amelia Hutchins pulls no punches in this awesome 1st installment. Magdalena is incredibly relatable and Lucian is deliciously devious. If you're a fan of Hutchins' Fae Chronicles, you absolutely need to pick this one up. And don't be deterred by the reviews bashing the narrator. She really isn't that bad. I actually ended up really liking her, as she isn't over exaggerated. The male narrator took a bit longer to grow on me, but overall I enjoyed his parts as well. Amelia Hutchins is a master at leading you to believe that you know exactly what's going on..... right up until the rug is pulled from under you... and you begin to question everything. Playing with Monsters is a must read for lovers of Dark Fantasy with a super sexy twist. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars all day long! I can't wait for book 2!

Great continuation of the series!

I was honestly surprised how much I loved this book. Syn is such a fantastically written character, and Shahara is a perfect balance with him. I liked book 1... but this one got me full on invested in the series. On we go to the next!

Historia
Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

Great start to a new series!

i absolutely loved this book! things to keep in mind: it DOES have a bit of a slow start... with a lot of information dumped early on. you'll be a bit confused.... and that is OK! The author has a way of only divulging specific bits of information.. which allows the story to breath and develope naturally. It'll all make sense in the end... and it is absolutely worth pushing through the slow start to get to the heart of the story. I'm already starting book 2!

Historia
My name is Ruby Morningstar. I run a tattoo parlor in Portland with my best friend, have a pet raccoon, a crazy ex who stalks me, not to mention this one little thing...I'm a demon. Half-succubus, to be exact. For the last 23 years of my life, that's the story I believed, but on the day a handsome stranger bails me out of jail my world is turned upside down, and suddenly I don't know who I am anymore. Because the Four Horsemen aren't the bringers of the apocalypse. I am.

Fun, easy read with great characters.
Revisado: 05-07-20
So I sort of stumbled onto this book entirely by accident and I was honestly pleasantly surprised by it. It DOES seem to have a sort of Reverse Harem situation going on, which normally I'm not real crazy about. However, with that being said, for some reason I didn't mind it at all in this book. it's done in a way that is actually more interesting than most books with this trope.
The characters are really intriguing in this first installment of the series. I love the aspect of demons and The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.. but with a slight twist added to keep things interesting and different. I do wish that there was a bit more developement of the actual storyline, but there was just enough revealed to keep me interested, and get me invested in reading book 2. I actually found myself wishing this book was longer as it is only a roughly 4 hour read. Which does have its own pros.. I just happen to enjoy a longer book.
The narrator was pretty great. She does quite a few different accents, and she does them well. She's also really good at reading the male POVs. The writing style is also nice, as the characters feel relatable and it never feels pretentious. Kel Carpenter is a fun writer, who incorporates a lot of personality and humor in her writing.
All in all... this was a nice little surprise of a book. I'm glad I gave it a fair chance, as I'm actually really excited to read book 2 and see where this story goes. I've already bought the audiobook for book 2.
