Twists and turns!
Revisado: 01-07-25
I loved that I could not figure out what was happening. I was reading, and could not make a prediction at all. I liked the characters and how the main ones were developed. I could not find a person to dislike—- until almost the end, that is.

Historia
For high-powered personal injury attorney Noah Byron, the good things in life come with a price tag - cars, houses, women. That's why he represents only cases that come with the possibility of a nice cut of the action. But as a favor to his ex-wife, he meets with the mother of twelve-year-old Joel, a boy poisoned by tainted children's medicine. While the official story is that a psycho tampered with bottles, the boy's mother believes something much more sinister is at work...and the trail leads right back to the pharmaceutical company.

I enjoyed this one. The narrator was great at all voices except the women. All of the women sounded old and gravelly. I was able to ignore the voices used for the women by the end of the book.

Survival is Possible
Revisado: 07-07-24
I really liked the adventure in this book. There were so many interesting ups and downs. By the same token, I hated the ups and downs. Just when it seemed things would work out, one of the characters could not get out of his/her own way or out of the way of another character.
It was nerve wracking. I had to stop after each major disappointment.
Then, I missed the narrator of the first two novels. While Cynthia Erivio did a phenomenal job, it was quite a surprise and a little disappointing when I did not hear the timbre of the other narrator. I think because I binged these audiobooks, it affected me more than it will others. Again, she was very good—- just different.
Last point. I think the author highlights how incredibly harmful infighting is for a people. How it leaves them ALL vulnerable to attacks from without.
It is a lesson we can all heed.

In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

Clear Canary in the Coal Mine
Revisado: 02-24-24
This strategic and well developed account of Liz Cheney and others who worked in Congress during a time that will forever be imprinted on the minds of Americans boggles the mind. Facts matter! The evidence presented here can be found by anyone who is in search of the truth. There are none so blind as those who will not simply open their eyes. None so deaf as those who intentionally shut their ears.
That the narrator is Liz Cheney adds so much to this audible. Additionally, by adding the audio of certain key people masterfully added gravity.
I was not a Cheney fan, yet I applaud her courage and patriotism on full display in this book, as well as, in the days following the election, during the work done by the select committee of January 6, and even right now.
My appreciation of Liz Cheney is not partisan!!

Never whom I’d expect
Revisado: 01-28-24
I love that I can never guess whodunnit in Labuskes’ novels. Even when I guess some of it, it’s still not enough to predict it all. The layers of her writing, the characters in all their psychopathy, the pace and voice of the storyline assures that I will be a follower and reader of this author— who is new to me— for quite a while.

This Psych 312 assignment just might send me off the deep end. Determining whether love at first sight really exists with Robbie Moravian as my project partner of all people? He’s the sappiest man alive, so upbeat I could scream, and clearly rooting for happy endings at every turn. How does he not learn from experience considering our own meet-cute last semester almost got us expelled? But we both need to pass this course to graduate. So we’re interviewing five random couples about their meet-cutes and relationships and spending all this time together. Which is certainly...educational.

The performance was top tier
Revisado: 11-29-23
If romantic comedy is your thing, this is a good one. While I enjoyed it, I didn’t like the male character as much as I liked the female character. I know the writing calls for him to be kinda dorky. And he was!! The premise, though, was that love -or falling in love - happens in myriad ways. Maybe, I am just a thriller/ suspense kind of person, so while I enjoyed this and did not feel like I wasted my time listening, I don’t feel compelled to seek out another one of these.

Family is Family
Revisado: 11-06-23
This was an okay story. I think my review has more to do with it not turning out like I wanted. It was going a story about family issues— how a terrible event impacts the lives of those who experienced it in myriad ways. However, the plot seemed dull.
Maybe it’s because I am more a thriller/mystery type of person. I don’t know, but these characters did not have me wondering what was happening to them when I paused the audio ( or closed the book).

Historia
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

Good Stephen King story
Revisado: 11-04-23
I’d put off reading this book on Audible because I had so many other good reads to get through. I finally started this one yesterday, and I barely wanted to sleep without finishing it. This only happens when I care about the characters.
I cared about the two major ones and was interested in knowing how King was going to get the two together. I think he did it quite well. While I agree with others that there were quite a few characters on the periphery, I don’t know how the story could have worked without them. In fact, those on the side served their purpose and bowed out. ( IMO: Only Wendy’s part was not as defined as it could have been).
Then, people talk about the author’s introduction of his political leanings into the text. These were so minimal, he could have left them out; however, they didn’t bother me. Often, you can ascertain the way a writer leans by the subject they choose to discuss anyway. I saw it a bit, but not like I feel it in Brad Thor books (Scot Harvath series). It’s something I pick up, but if the story is good, it just does not distract me.
Anyway, this was a good story.
I enjoyed the narrator, too.
