Another Andy Weir procedural

This was another Andy Weir story that was heavy on scientific details, just kinda makes your eyes glaze over if you're not conversant with the technical minutiae, but an enjoyable story, nonetheless. The friendship between the main protagonists is by turns, heartwarming and amusing. Porter's performance was very good, a lot of funny bits and he managed the scientific aspects of the story well, my hat's off to anyone who can make Weir's exacting detail come across in an understandable and interesting manner.
Altogether, a worthwhile listen, although I doubt this one will get made into a movie starring Matt Damon.

I've read almost everything Niven's ever written, this one still shines as a great, sprawling adventure across the stars, with mystery, hardware, and family ties. The audiobook was a treat, I especially liked the Australian accents of the Belters, that was a nice touch.

Bacigalupi has kind of hit on a formula here: Young adult survival novel in the ruins of post climate-change America, the protagonists struggle across a hideous wasteland, fighting the evil bad guys and overcoming insurmountable odds to come out on top and ride away on a super clipper ship. Kinda saw this already in Ship Breaker.
I love PB's landscapes and extrapolations of a future world that is taking shape before our eyes, but sometimes his characterizations and story lines can get a little tedious. This one was a little tough to swallow, and the ending chapters were frankly unbelievable. But, yay, the heroes come out all right, sorta, and it sets up his next novel in the Drowned Cities saga, which I've already purchased, but I believe I'll wait awhile to get into.

I've been reading Arthur Clarke's work since I was ten, but hadn't read anything by him lately. So glad I encountered this superb collection of stories.
First, I had forgotten what a droll and humorous fellow Clarke could be, many of these stories are howlingly funny, in a dry and erudite way, particularly the Tales From The White Hart stories. Ralph Lister is the best narrator of the tongue-in-cheek tales, he speaks with a barely concealed mirth and his accent is perfect for the tone.
But there is grandeur and majesty here as well, Clarke could convey a sense of awe and wonder in his prose, I'd forgotten how well he could sweep you into the universe.
Some of the stories haven't aged as well as others, but they are all enjoyable nonetheless, providing a glimpse back in time to what was the prevailing scientific thought. And of course, no one was better than Clarke at sweeping predictions of what the future could be like, and it's amazing how close to the mark he was on so many things that have actually come to pass.
I've thoroughly enjoyed this collection, and if you're a Clarke fan, you will too.

I remember when I first read this book, it scared the bejesus out of me. At the time, the realism of modern, rational people encountering vampires in their midst was quite the frightfest.
30 some-odd years later, it doesn't hold up quite as well, but was still a lot of fun, and Ron McLarty's narration was excellent, colorful and emphatic. Some of the plot holes I found more than a little annoying, (Don't go in the spooky old house, you guys!), and King's detailing of the tawdry, seamy underbelly of small-town life got a little tedious at times, but there were still scenes of genuine, creepy atmosphere that still managed to get me looking around in the dark corners of the basement for any ghostly faces with long, white teeth.........

Weir once again kills the scientific details, but falls a little short on story.
This was told from the POV of the main character, Jaz, who is, by turns, funny and annoying. There are also characters like Dale who seem unnecessary to the story as introduced, but factor in later, as well as others. Altogether interesting enough to see it through, but a little disappointing after The Martian. Rosario Dawson's narration is amusing in the main character's voice, but was forced and unbelievable when doing accents of the others, except for, strangely, Svoboda.

....but this audiobook, not so much. Mispronunciations, some strange characterizations. The woman narrator sounded good on women's voices, not so great on the men's. So far, this seems to be the only volume that has been made into an audiobook. I wonder why audiobooks can't be produced w/ the appropriate sex voicing the characters, and how about accents? I know many of the characters in The Many-Colored Land had English, French, Australian accents.

Lot of changes in the story, some good, some not so much.
Narration was by turns amusing and annoying, sometimes it's great when the author reads his own book, didn't always enjoy Lindsay's take on his own work.

Haved loved this book since I first read it in my 20s. Abbey's prose is by turns, funny, hypnotic, profound and enchanting. Should have been made into a movie a long time ago.

Fairly hilarious, our man Arno's escapades, but the sex scenes got a little tedious. What was with the narrator's accent on the teen strumpet, Silvie? She sounded like Triumph, the Comic Insult Dog.
I know an action novel wasn't the author's intention, but the fold powers would surely have come to the attention of the government, Arno wasn't nearly as careful as he thought he was. All-in-all, a funny and weird book, a little heavily drenched in sex, though.
