Please, please, please fire your proofreader.
Revisado: 04-18-25
This is the second book in the past year with glaring errors any decent proofreader would have spotted. I don't know maybe the guy needs some holidays or more time. But enough is enough. There have been multiple sentences that are the exact same a few paragraphs apart. For example the Lego one. Seriously.

Historia
The colony on Haven-7 has gone rogue. The colonists have split into two factions: the Techborn and the Dusters. The Techborn have always ruled the planet. They control the remnants of the crashed starship that brought humanity to this new world. The Dusters… they eat Techborn dust. Now, the Techborn strength is waning. Their weapons are getting old, and radiation leaks from the aging reactors have created mutations. Some of these, like their brutish troops known as Tuskers, have proven useful—but others are abominations.

Inconsistencies
Revisado: 11-21-24
Let me preface this with saying that I'm a big BV Larson fan. I've literally read every book and some I've read twice. This one has been really disappointing. I don't know if it's Covid, overwork, ghost writing or the use of some really bad AI, but there are 2 big issues with this book:
1) way to many inconsistencies. As in logical flows that don't make sense. Just now at the end of the book in the last few chapters there were 3 GLARING ones.
- Tina already came alone to his place, but suddenly it's too dangerous?
- The XCU entrance has two completely different descriptions in book 1 vs book 2
- Tanner has ONE week off, and they start dating then, but you make it sound like it's been months
This needs some better proofreading. I am sure you could find a few fans willing to help point these out. Get in touch with us!
2) the rambling, holy shit how often do you want to re-explain or re-describe a person? Felt like a school essay that wasn't long enough. Don't take your reader for complete imbeciles.
Other than that it was okay, I like the plot, the sci-fi western feel and even the characters.

Good Story, Cringe Characters
Revisado: 08-07-24
Chaney has really awesome universe ideas and great world building. I just wish someone could help him with his character development. They are cringe AF, one dimensional and childish.

But little do any of them know, beneath his gentle demeanor, their steadfast captain is far from the peace following, adventure seeking giant of a man they all love. His pacifist ethos meant to safeguard them has edged them to the brink of financial ruin and drawn dangerous enemies.

I tried to like it
Revisado: 07-27-24
I honestly tried to like it and the story might be good but I can't get past Khristine Hvam, like when do her sentences end and who's talking?? A shame because Mark Boyett once again delivers oscar level performance. It just was ruined by Khristine Hvam.
Edit: tried to force myself to listen further but then the characters got more and more stereotypical and frankly cringe AF. Returning the book. Hope the review stays though.

Nice main character
Revisado: 11-16-23
I like the fact that the author managed to create a different main character that isn't James. I think that's important for this series. I really like the plot which seems to be more and more difficult these days.
I also really like the captain and Anna, BV Larson really hits the sweet spot for these type of characters.
Can't wait for book 3!
And of course Mark Boyette delivers impeccable work as always.
Thank you both for the great time!

The Razik Police Department does things just a tiny bit differently, and so do the local criminals. Some things never change, however. Extortion, kidnapping, and murder are the intergalactic languages of lawless bullies, and Breaker knows exactly how far he’ll go to protect the innocent.

Not as good as 1-3 but enjoyable.
Revisado: 10-30-23
Book 1-3 were all 5* to me. However, something was off in the 4th book. The story was nice but way too americanised, it felt out of place for that universe. Examples: School shootings, really? As non American I spend 0 seconds per day thinking about this, I know it's an issue in America but literally no other country on earth faces that, and I doubt we would take that habit to space.
Then there is the coffee in the diner on an alien planet. Like did the authors ever travel outside the US? Coffee for dinner, or like served as refill isn't even a thing outside the US but somehow that same American habit exists on an alien planet? Totally breaks immersion.
Then the protagonist wonders why kids are outside alone, it took me minute to realise that that's apparently not a thing in America? Totally normal in Europe or Asia.
The list of ultra American themes goes on. Not enjoyable.
And the Mark Boyett why did you change the Gloassars (is that how it's spelled?) voice? That threw me off.
All in all still enjoyable but a noticeable decline. I still have high hopes for any future parts! More of the crew, more scifi and scifi crimes and this will be excellent.
I still love Yolo, the voice is excellent and her character amazing, even if we hear very little of her. I'd really like to taste her Lasagna!!

Mark Boyett and B.V Larson, those two never miss!
Revisado: 09-12-23
Great performance from Mark Boyett, he's just incredible. Good story from B.V. Larson. I like the fact he managed to differentiate the Hero from the other Heroes in his other books. I removed one point because: A) why are we suddenly using Imperial measurements? I feel we usually had metric. And B) the proof-reader was clearly asleep. On two occasions the protagonist describes the scent/texture of the air while in an environment suite. A good proof reader should have caught that. And again on the book 2 preview, the protagonist bats the gun away from the pirate, and then he approaches the pirate with his rifle? He is clearly already in melee range.
That being said this isn't literature, so I am happy with less polish and more releases. I'd rather read 4 B.V Larson books a year than 1 RR Martin a decade.

Historia
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Lots of inconsistencies
Revisado: 05-24-23
The general idea is good, sadly there were countless logical issues where the author contradicts rules he established earlier. Maybe some proofreading would be in order. A little to much self deprecation and forced Marvel type humour and about 5 Deus Ex'es too many.
This author has potential but his proofreaders either didn't bother proofreading anything or were too nice to tell him the truth.
