Boring and cliched
Revisado: 01-28-23
One big eye roll. Plot holes, cliched characters, predictable plot, overused tropes, sophomore. Just awful.

Run of the mill yet entertaining scifi
Revisado: 12-11-22
It was fun getting into the source material for some classic movies (Minority Report, Total Recall, and possibly Terminator). The stories are entertaining but nothing particularly special.

Historia
When Dr. Louis Creed takes a new job and moves his family to the idyllic, rural town of Ludlow, Maine, this new beginning seems too good to be true. Yet despite Ludlow's tranquility, there's an undercurrent of danger that lingers...like the graveyard in the woods near the Creeds' home, where generations of children have buried their beloved pets.

One of Steven King's best
Revisado: 09-05-22
I've read a lot of Steven King's books and this is easily one of his best, if not the best. The premise is simple and effective, the inner dialogue of the protagonist is especially convincing as he makes decisions, and the conclusion is satisfying yet it leaves you wanting more.

A sales pitch for consulting
Revisado: 06-30-22
While this book contains some substance, it ultimately feels like a sales pitch for consulting services. It provides some high level thoughts and measures on improving software development productivity, relies too heavily on manufacturing for examples (and approach that's been beaten to death in similar books), and doesn't really get into practical implementation.

And what should we do when we face these challenges? Or as psychotherapist Amy Morin asks, what should we avoid when we encounter adversity? Through her years counseling others and her own experiences navigating personal loss, Morin realized it is often the habits we cannot break that are holding us back from true success and happiness.

What is life? What is my place in it? What choices do these questions obligate me to make? More than a half-century after it burst upon the intellectual scene - with roots that extend to the mid-19th century - Existentialism's quest to answer these most fundamental questions of individual responsibility, morality, and personal freedom, life has continued to exert a profound attraction.

makes an interesting topic dull
Revisado: 03-30-22
This is the first Great Courses title I couldn't get all the way through due to shear boredom. The narration is dry and uninterested, as if the speaker is unironically the bored Sisyphus of lectures.

Historia
From New York Times best-selling author Mira Grant comes a vision of a decade in the future, where humanity thrives in the absence of sickness and disease. We owe our good health to a humble parasite—a genetically engineered tapeworm developed by the pioneering SymboGen Corporation. When implanted, the Intestinal Bodyguard worm protects us from illness, boosts our immune system—even secretes designer drugs. It's been successful beyond the scientists' wildest dreams. Now, years on, almost every human being has a SymboGen tapeworm living within them.

Predictable take on Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Revisado: 02-19-22
A run of the mill sci-fi thriller, with a mild new take on the Invasion of the Body Snatchers premise (that's a spoiler, but it's easy to guess after the first chapter or two). Very forgettable with unsurprising twists and turns. That said, it's an easy read if you're just looking to pass the time and, though predictable, it manages to be just entertaining enough to finish.

Historia
Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon.

Not what you'd expect from a time management book
Revisado: 01-04-22
There's very little advice in this book, and that's a good thing. To make up for it, there's a lot of perspective. If you're looking for a book on time management, this probably isn't what you want but what you need to read.
