Historia
Many people grapple with destructive thought processes or a "critical inner voice" that directs their behavior and, to varying degrees, limits their lives. Using deeply personal and very human stories based on his own clinical practice, noted psychologist Robert W. Firestone illustrates the struggles of his clients to give words to this "enemy within", and in the process overcome its damaging influence.

Insightful Book, Not Self Help Book
Revisado: 05-02-23
I recommend this book to those who are interested in learning a theoretical orientation and practice through story telling rather than didac writing. I work in mental health, and found this book to be helpful in showing another lens through which to better understand and work with others and myself. I appreciated the author's lens for understanding character defenses, and how attuned and authentic relationship in therapy can work to orient someone towards more presence and connection within their life.
Some of the less happy reviewers seem to have invested time in this book under the impression it was a self help book, which it is not. Frankly, it reads more geared as towards those who are working in the field of Psychology and Mental Health.

The woman introduces herself as Martha and soon confesses that she’s been stuck in an affair with her boss. Selena, in turn, confesses that she suspects her husband is sleeping with the nanny. When the train arrives at Selena’s station, the two women part ways, presumably never to meet again.

Okay for throw away listen
Revisado: 07-07-22
I'm down for a far fetched, juicy, shit show plot with two dimensional characters...which is why I give this three stars. It had its moments. It held my attention enough; meaning I didn't find myself tuning it out. It's solidly okayish. The plot twists towards the end were too much, and really brought down the overall story quality. Similar plot not trying too hard to have surprise twists would have gotten four stars.

Not Engaging

Maybe this book just isn't for me. This book could not keep my attention. I couldn't even finish the last couple of hours...and that's saying something because I hate wasting credits. After listening to hundreds of audiobooks there are only a few I haven't finished.

Mediocre

The storyline itself was alright, but I found the characters to be very two dimensional. The characters came across to me like caricatures of the roles they played - very generic and at times eye roll worthy. If you need a story to pass the time, this won't be the worse choice, but not memorable.

Historia
In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place.... The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease.

Pretty Good
Revisado: 02-04-18
Where does Sleeping Beauties rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
No, this is not my favorite Stephen King book. However, it's still pretty good. I go through phases where I consume a fair amount of audio books, and while this is not my favorite King, it's far better than most of what I stumble across. I found the beginning very attention grabbing. The characters are solid (as usual with King), and the story itself is compelling. However, I would recommend listening to the abridged version - which is not a recommendation I'd usually give for just about anything I thought worth recommending. There were periods of this book that just really lost my interest. I found the momentum built up once the problem and potential solution were apparent got lost somewhere. Overall, though, it was enjoyable and well done.
