Big thrill in a small package
Revisado: 08-29-24
This is not your typical legal thriller. It shines a spotlight on the supreme court, while entwining family secrets and social media/big business rulings. Sanaa Lathan's performance was outstanding, 5 stars all the way.

Not your usual Mike Ryan thriller
Revisado: 01-04-24
After reading several of Mike Ryan's series, I wasn't sure what to expect with these 3 standalone books. While they had Mike Ryan's signature writing style, the endings were all different from what I am used to. I enjoyed these books enough that I would read continuing books if they were turned into a series. The narrators for each book did a good job. 4 stars for each story and each narration.

Historia
Eleanor, the charming manager of a cozy tea shop, enjoys the transportive ritual of making a cup of Masala Chai tea, reminisces about the tea's origins, and delights in the beauty of her quaint English village during the holidays. Bedtime stories are narrated by the world's most celebrated voices and written with no beginning, middle, or end so you don't stay up to hear what happens next. They're interesting enough to give your mind something to focus on, but delivered in a way that encourages sleep.

Excellent bedtime story in audio!
Revisado: 10-09-23
I was looking for a short story to fall asleep to. Nothing amusing or engaging, just something positive narrated in a relaxing voice.
In the past, I've tried more traditional bedtime stories, but I always became interested in the story and wanted to listen to the end to find out what happened.
Over the past two weeks, I've fallen asleep listening to this book about a woman with a tea shop (and the shop's white kitten Darjeeling). I have no idea what happens in the second half of the book. I always drift off halfway, and in the morning, the Audible app says the book is finished. Perfect! Exactly what I was looking for! 5 stars!

More please! 5 stars
Revisado: 09-28-23
Dear Andrew Mayne: Please continue this series! Thank you.
The main characters revealed a bit more of themselves in this second book in the series. Of course, it's just enough to drive you crazy and want more. I've enjoyed the scientific storylines (gadgets, aliens) and historical figures (Theodore Roosevelt, Harry Houdini). There is some darkness, for sure. On the other hand, the thought of a man riding a rhino to the rescue turned things around. It makes me think of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Inspector Gadget with a little MacGyver thrown in. Good times. The narrator, Kevin T. Collins, did a fantastic job with all manner of accents and character voices. I kept forgetting that one man was performing each and every part. Bravo! 5 stars, all around.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

5 stars - truly beautiful and funny
Revisado: 07-26-23
I strongly encourage you to give this one a chance. It may come across as simple, but that would be a deception. This is one of those books where there are quite a few characters whose paths cross (and miss each other) without knowing that they are connected. The way their paths are described and the way they learn of one another is truly special. This book describes... not magic, but unique and wonderful connections between beings. Love shows itself in many ways. (Now, why won't my eyes stop their infernal leaking?)
The narration was on point. Both narrators were perfectly suited to their characters. I was especially impressed by Marin Ireland's ability to perform the accents as well as male voices. I look forward to hearing more of her work. (It really says a lot when you take a chance on a book based upon the narrator. I will happily do that for Marin Ireland!)

Creepy Creepy CREEPY!
Revisado: 07-25-23
This story was excellent, yet difficult to finish. Once the action began, the story already had its claws in me and I was creeped out, big time! While this was a short story, it took me four months to finish. I didn't relish the thought of being back in the world of the creepy main character and their actions. Through the twists and turns, the story surprised me enough that I stopped trying to anticipate the ending. As an Audible Original, there was a full cast performing this audiobook. Zachary Quinto nailed the lead role perfectly. I don't think I'll ever look at him in the same way again. My skin is still crawling at his chilling portrayal of an actor getting caught up in method acting. The other cast members were terrific, as well. Judith Light was a nice surprise. The sound effects helped to flesh out the scenes for the most part. I think this would still be enjoyable if read in the traditional fashion (e-reader or paper book). For those who enjoy a good James Patterson thriller, I highly recommend experiencing this on a bright sunny day😁.

Historia
This novel by Carl Hiaasen, author of Tourist Season and Native Tongue, begins as most thrillers do, with a killing. But this is no everyday, hum-drum, garden variety killing. Our hero, Nick Stranahan, a 42-year-old private investigator who has killed five men and been married five times, skewers his attacker's aorta with the razor-sharp bill of a stuffed marlin.

Plastic Surgery & Murder Hijinks
Revisado: 07-06-23
Voice actor/narrator George Wilson performs this book like the professional he is. I enjoyed the various voices used for the cast of characters, some of which impressed me. I was able to follow along and differentiate which character was speaking most of the time. To date, I haven't read a book by Carl Hiassen that I didn't like, although I cringed at some of the characterizations that might be considered politically incorrect or off-color. The story was thoroughly engaging (an unsolved disappearance of a young woman after having plastic surgery) and it went ALL over the place, taking me along for the ride. The hero, Mick Stranahan, was easy to root for, and I couldn't wait to see how he handled each situation. Example: years prior, Mick came home to find his wife (#4 of 5) fooling around with another man. Mick grabbed the naked man and superglued his (ahem) 'sack' to the hood of his car. His response was heavy-handed and over-the-top, but is only one of many crazy scenes. A 7-foot tall hit man with a weed Wacker prosthetic instead of a hand? Check. A pet barracuda living under a stilt house, providing security back-up? Check. A wood chipper used in a manner not consistent with its intended purpose? Check. The bad guys get theirs in the end and the epilogue wraps up any loose ends. 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Excellent narration; good book
Revisado: 06-24-23
Narrator Zachary Webber nailed this perfectly. When he narrated the female's POV, I sometimes forgot that it was him and not a woman speaking. Narrator Julia Whelan did a good job also. She was able to convey that her character had a wealthy upbringing, but wasn't purposefully snobby to be condescending. She wanted to learn how to do for herself (how to peel potatoes or flip a circuit breaker). She felt that all people deserved respect, regardless of wealth or station in life. "Grace costs you nothing". I was pleasantly surprised by the "magic town" influence; it provided some balance with the abuse issues (primarily emotional abuse, some physical). I would have given this book 5 stars, but I kept getting angry at the abusers and fake friends. Over and over again, I had to take a break from listening to calm down so I wouldn't slam cabinets in outrage. The major event near the end was SO SATISFYING without being ugly. Compliments to Ms. Jimenez for pulling that off; I was impressed and did not see it coming. I will now begin reading the next book in the series.

Excellent - 5 stars
Revisado: 04-17-23
This was my first romance dealing with asexuality and I found it informative without being overwhelming. The developing romance between these two young men was a perfect example of why I love to read books about people falling in love. Also, it is HILARIOUS! One of the gentlemen drops MF-bombs like I say "whoops!" and he's a librarian! I had to stop reading it late at night, because I kept bursting out laughing, loudly! The supporting characters are entertaining enough that I would read their stories if they had their own books. Narration was excellent! Characters were Australian, so expect the accent.
