Historia
Marion Zetland lives with her domineering older brother, John, in a crumbling mansion on the edge of a northern seaside resort. A timid spinster in her 50s who still sleeps with teddy bears, Marion does her best to live by John's rules, even if it means turning a blind eye to the noises she hears coming from behind the cellar door...and turning a blind eye to the women's laundry in the hamper that isn't hers. For years she's buried the signs of John's devastating secret into the deep recesses of her mind - until the day John is crippled by a heart attack.

Wonderful, yet creepy insight into deranged minds!
Revisado: 10-27-17
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, I was taken in by Marion's imagination and her fantasies, and my heart actually went out to her - even when her dark side shows itself. Their mother was poison to these two siblings and it would be very interesting if the author could write another novel from John's perspective. Their father may have contributed to some of the deviance too but he's not mentioned much, so John's thought patterns would be interesting to tap into. (Hint hint Catherine Burns!) John's character truly did not believe he was doing anything wrong. I also liked the hint of the super-natural in this story when it mentioned psychics and the things revealed by them.
Another review said there was porn and unsettling things in this, but there isn't. Nothing is mentioned like that in any detail so if you're squeamish about that type of thing -don't worry! Overall an interesting but tragic story of how some people's minds can get so twisted and detached from reality.

Good storyline but didn't like ending
Revisado: 10-26-17
This was a really good idea and made for a great storyline. But, I didn't care for the ending in either parallel story....there wasn't enough of a mystery or shocking twist for me, it was just ho-hum. Oh well....

Historia
The discovery of a dead infant in an Amish barn shakes Lancaster County to its core. But the police investigation leads to a more shocking disclosure: Circumstantial evidence suggests that 18-year-old Katie Fisher, an unmarried Amish woman believed to be the newborn's mother, took the child's life. When Ellie Hathaway, a disillusioned big-city attorney, comes to Paradise, Pennsylvania, to defend Katie, two cultures collide - and for the first time in her high-profile career, Ellie faces a system of justice very different from her own.

Not her best. Boring and drawn out
Revisado: 09-26-17
What would have made Plain Truth better?
If it wasn't so painfully obvious in the first 2 hours of the book. Also, the love story bored me to tears.
Would you ever listen to anything by Jodi Picoult again?
Yes, I normally love her work, this one was a dud.
Any additional comments?
I did love hearing the description of daily life on an Amish farm, but some of the behaviors of the characters were not typical of them. This book was mostly boring and obvious. I couldn't even finish it actually. A lot of aspects were introduced but then never mentioned again - a lot of things not explained. The Ellie love story was boring and cheesy. I just didn't care for this book :-(

Great intense story with lots of surprises!
Revisado: 09-19-17
What did you like best about this story?
What I liked best was trying to guess the villain and also trying to figure out why someone was doing this to Sarah. Also I loved how everything was accounted for and not left me hanging like other books do sometimes. All the clues are there - you just have to pay attention to the right ones!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I could feel Sarah's pain and confusion, and then later desperation! I was kinda disappointed in her husband Ben's reaction and treatment though - I would expect better from my own husband for sure!
Any additional comments?
Overall a great book - and the ending was great!

What a tangled web...
Revisado: 09-15-17
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Well, I almost gave up in the first few chapters....Louise is so self-loathing, and kept repeating the mantra..."after what I did"..for example "I don't deserve happiness, everyone should hate me, blah blah blah" Major drama queen stuff! BUT once you're past that, the plot takes off and it gets more interesting. I will admit I thought I had it figured out a couple times but I was fooled! Pretty intense story!
Any additional comments?
One thing I did find strange and somewhat confusing was when she talked about when they were 16 - some of the scenarios described sounded more like ten year olds, rather than teenagers. Stuff like slumber parties, and the lunchroom interactions just reminded me of grade-schoolers.

Revisado: 09-12-17
Where does The Good Sister rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I really enjoyed this book, the characters had depth. The story moved along and kept me wanting to listen!
What does Annette Chown bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I loved her narration, however, I wish there had been more of a difference between Josie and Valentina. Sometimes it was difficult to tell which one was speaking.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I liked when Josie and Valentina first meet - I can imagine their shock and confusion!

Intriguing, creepy story!
Revisado: 08-21-17
What did you like best about this story?
I loved the concept of a store taking over a whole town, and the underlying creepiness associated with it.
Any additional comments?
There were some things I wish had been explained better, or rather there were questions/mysteries that never were elaborated on, and I was disappointed. This book could easily have had 20 more chapters and I would have loved it! Other than that, I wanted to keep listening, and the author kept me interested all throughout the book!

I should have listened to the reviews!
Revisado: 08-14-17
What disappointed you about See Me Not?
It was just a stupid story - the "big reveal" was spelled out over and over in from of the main character's face so many times I was rolling my eyes. No one is that dense or stupid.
What could Janelle Harris have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
She did fine with the material she was given. I did enjoy the Irish accents.
Any additional comments?
Not a very good story. The whole twist is pretty much revealed several times before the "actual" reveal. So this confused me. Just overall stupid. I didn't even finish it.

A wonderfully written book, insighful!
Revisado: 07-27-17
What made the experience of listening to The Secrets She Keeps the most enjoyable?
The narrator was great, she did each character true to form. I could easily tell them apart.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Secrets She Keeps?
I can't say a whole lot without giving away too much, I'll just say it was interesting to hear Agatha's plan and each move she made. It had me on the edge of my seat, almost rooting for her!
Any additional comments?
I loved this story! It took you inside the minds of both women and I felt deeply for both of them. Very well developed characters, and both were likeable in their own way.

Historia
In the polygamous Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (FLDS), girls can become valuable property as plural wives, but boys are expendable, even a liability. In this powerful and heartbreaking account, former FLDS member Brent Jeffs reveals both the terror and the love he experienced growing up on his prophet's compound and the harsh exile existence that so many boys face once they have been expelled by the sect.

A male perspective on the FLDS
Revisado: 06-22-17
What was one of the most memorable moments of Lost Boy?
When Brent was talking about his panic attacks and the horrible memories coming to the surface, I could almost feel his fear and dread - I cannot imagine!
Any additional comments?
I have read a few of the books from the former female members of the FLDS and how life was on a daily basis, so it was very interesting to hear a boy's view on it. I was impressed by how highly he thought of his father, and how he said he was taught to treat women with respect. This didn't seem to be the norm in other families, where women were treated as currency, or property. So, I think his father was probably not in agreement with how badly women were treated in other families and that is refreshing to say the least. I enjoyed hearing his story and the journey of healing he had to endure in adulthood.
