Dedication Above and Beyond
Revisado: 02-03-25
Oh my! Charles Martin has really shown off this time! Truly, it's yet again. If you've read his Murphy Shepard series, it's somewhat similar yet very different because he's a Texas Ranger. It's yet another one of his that I almost started all over again. He kept me guessing at how it would end up until the very end. Stellar performance by the narrators as well! Fantastic all the way around!

Historia
Savannah Webster is trying to find her way forward. She and her husband, Hez, have been separated since tragedy tore them apart and he began numbing his grief and guilt with alcohol. She returned to Tupelo Grove University, which her family helped found over a century ago, to teach history. When Hez turns up in her classroom asking for a second chance, she rejects the idea immediately. But twenty-four hours later she’s under suspicion for murder, and since Hez is the best attorney she knows, she reluctantly asks him for help.

More twists and turns than a corkscrew and definitely a roller-coaster!
Revisado: 11-27-24
This story kept me guessing right up until the end! A real page-turner! (Or in the case of Audible, a "just one more minute; just another chapter" kinda book!

Historia
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

Even Better Than the Movie!
Revisado: 04-11-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Without a doubt!!! I believe the audiobook is even better than the movie ... If you can believe that. The performers, along with the extended material a book provides, make this a well deserved listen!
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Help?
There are several ... This book is FULL of memorable moments! If I had to pick one thing that's stuck with me is that Hilly Holbrook needs a good old fashioned spanking.
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The reality of it all. The time in history and the south along with the emotions that went along with it.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes and no. Yes, because it's an awesome story. No, because I think you need to have some time to reflect on what's taken place during that listening time.
Any additional comments?
I'd really like to see a follow-up to this one. There were so many leads left to follow at the end. What happened to Minnie? How did Aibileen do working at the paper? Miss Skeeter's life in New York must have really been something.

What they don’t mistake is the instant attraction they have for each other, an attraction they’ll do everything in their power to resist - because Dennie thinks that Alec is running interference for her interview subject, and Alec suspects that Dennie is linked to his swindler. As the confusion grows, so do their feelings for each other....

Very Entertaining! Trust Me on This ...
Revisado: 04-11-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely! It's a story that grabs you quickly making you want to listen just a little longer and every chance you get.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Dennie by far! She has decisions to make and takes them head on. There's lessons to be learned and she's a very quick and creative study. (Aunt Vic was my second favorite.)
What does Angela Dawe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She puts character and personality in to each person in the story. Angela Dawe is definitely a performer to search out and enjoy in other audiobooks.
Any additional comments?
My daughter recommended this author to me. I've listened to two of them now and looking forward to more as she's definitely an author I'll follow. She keeps her material true-to-life as I could so see this happening to me if I was in her shoes.

The Hunger Games Series is an Awesome Experience!
Revisado: 08-27-12
Would you listen to Catching Fire again? Why?
Absolutely! The story line is addicting right from the start so you naturally have to continue on from the first book all the way through to the end of the third. I was also impressed with Carolyn McCormick changing her voice for each character and being able to hold to that throughout the entire series.
What did you like best about this story?
Suzanne Cook paints a very vivid word picture, so being able to see this story unfolding in my mind was easy. I enjoyed the detail that she provided about the characters, their surroundings and history that made understanding the trials and tribulations so much easier. (So much of this was lacking in the movie but movies are only allowed to be so long.)
Which character – as performed by Carolyn McCormick – was your favorite?
Katniss Everdeen was my favorite. The 'voice and tone' used by Carolyn McCormick throughout the series allows you to really know Katniss, her thoughts, her heart. It's great to see a young lady display this type of 'take charge' attitude with regard to taking over the responsibilities of her family after her father's death due to her mother's inability to do so due to her own personal grief. Even after winning the first Hunger Game, she never changes her personality and allows the Capital's way of life to swallow her up. Her focus remains the same; protecting and taking care of her family and those closest to her.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes! I wanted to kill President Snow myself. I laughed and cried at different times throughout the series.
Any additional comments?
While the author has done a fabulous job, I'd like to especially thank Carolyn McCormick for her talents in performing this series. I've already begun shopping for other books that she's performed.
