Historia
Hidden behind a mask and with a dagger in his sheath, Mute serves the crown with pride. A fair life, if not a monotonous one. But his next contract nicks too close, for murder within a brothel is always nasty business, especially the one which Mute frequents. The brothel his Dorothy works, his Dorothy who awaits Mute and only Mute. Surely none would dare touch her, for if they did, royalty or not, they would fall to Lord Mute, the Silent God's chosen one. They would scream…

Brilliant story with excellent narration
Revisado: 08-09-24
I found the story fascinating, with a subtle mystery that soon boiled into an amazing journey into a broken family. The narrator does an excellent job at applying just the right emphasis on just the right spots. The story is a tragedy and it reads like one. Well done on all fronts

Historia
Fiver could sense danger. Something terrible was going to happen to the warren; he felt sure of it. They had to leave immediately. So begins a long and perilous journey of survival for a small band of rabbits. As the rabbits skirt danger at every turn, we become acquainted with the band, its humorous characters, and its compelling culture, complete with its own folk history and mythos. Fiver’s vision finally leads them to Watership Down, an upland meadow. But here they face their most difficult challenges of all.

Terrible pacing for an otherwise wonderful story
Revisado: 03-04-23
I wish I could rate this book higher. Because the worldbuilding, the lore and the second half was easily 4, if not 5 stars.
But it takes forever to get there. The first half of this book has abysmal pacing. Almost to the point that I nearly DNF several times. But there was just enough interest to keep me pushing forward.
The narrator does a beautiful job, making you feel each character’s plight. It makes it an enjoyable experience.
If you’ve seen the movie, that really fixes a lot of the problems. The first 7 chapters could really have been condensed into 3, maybe 2.
That being said though, it is a thought provoking book and one that explores mortality in an interesting manner. So, I do recommend you read it.
Just maybe skim the first 15 chapters.

Historia
There are tales of Middle-earth from times long before The Lord of the Rings. The story told in this book is set in the great country that lay beyond the Grey Havens in the West: lands where Treebeard once walked, but which were drowned in the great cataclysm that ended the First Age of the World.

Brilliant narrator for one of Tolkien’s less intriguing protagonists
Revisado: 03-04-23
So, I love Tolkien. I love his stories, his world-building, his imagination. But I don’t think this version of the story is it’s best. Truthfully, this works better as a shorter story in the Silmarillon.
There’s a lot of expansion here that really doesn’t add much to the story. It’s interesting but it doesn’t really serve to add much to the more condensed version we already have.
Honestly, this is probably my least favorite protagonist in Tolkien’s lore. It’s hard to feel for him when his flaws so overpower his strengths. Granted, this is a tragedy and is meant to be read as such but you still need to feel for the main character and you really don’t here. You feel for everyone that unfortunately comes into contact with him.
Sir Christopher Lee does an amazing job narrating. The pronunciations, the voice focus, it’s all wonderful.
While not a bad version, save yourself time and just read the version in the Silmarillion

Historia
Tobias Kaya doesn't care about The Savior. He doesn't care that She's the ruler of the realm or that She purified the land, and he certainly doesn't care that She's of age to be married. But when competing for Her hand proves to be his last chance to save his family, he's forced to make The Savior his priority. Now Tobias is thrown into the Sovereign's Tournament with nineteen other men, and each of them is fighting - and killing - for the chance to rule at The Savior's side.

An intriguing story with brilliant characters
Revisado: 05-26-19
Jenna crafts a very compelling story. Her pacing is wonderful, giving enough plot in each chapter to satisfying and then adding a bit more to entice before ending the chapter, leaving one longing to press onward.
Characters are well developed and their interactions are easily my favorite part of this story. The way they speak, react and respond to one another is 100% believable, not an easy feat with a large cast of males. Most female authors have difficulty grasping the nuances of male friendships and interactions but Jenna does so very well. I appreciate the build up to the way she crafts her relationships as well. They are not instantaneous but rather take time, making them all the more believable.
If I must give any negatives, it would be that sometimes I feel she uses a bit more crude language than is really needed. I’m not put off by it but it can sometimes fall into the “do people really cuss THAT much territory?” All in all though, that’s a minor complaint and I would definitely not say it does not ruin the wonderful journey.
This is most certainly an adult novel but Jenna uses that to her advantage to address such wonderful and important topics as free will, mental illness, prejudice and the true nature of humans. She utilizes representation brilliantly and it is deeply welcomed.
The performance of the audiobook is perfectly suited to the type of story it is. I cannot recommend it enough and greatly anticipate her next installment!
