author decided to place Snake from metal gear solid into a fantasy sci-fi mashup among other things
Revisado: 06-30-24
I am nowhere near finished. only ch 48, but I like it so far and the title of my review should tell you what I think the author did, but there's a lot more to it as it has video game references all over and I am not sure what alien parasite series influenced the writing, but I kept thinking of an anime called parasyte. anyway, far from finished, of course, he could still be in a vr sim and not kidnapped by aliens with God complexes influencing civilizations spanning galaxies. still a lot more to listen to, but I am enjoying it thus far.

great series
Revisado: 06-06-23
fun series with a nice mix of fantasy, comedy, politics, and sci-fi, but the action is where it draws you in, even if there's less in this book than others.

Historia
Whether they were a snake-haired gorgon, a colorful slime woman, or a 15 feet tall Oni, they were free to live peacefully in Pluma Territory. For many of the creatures, living peacefully was something they never dared even dream of, so it was only natural that they traveled from all over the continent to reach his territory. If only the humans would let them. Sometimes it was guards in a neighboring territory killing them for sport, sometimes it was a village stealing all of their supplies, and sometimes it was slavers attempting to profit.

pretty good
Revisado: 02-26-23
well, I think that the story should be longer if the author is going to make so many sex scenes. I'm not sure how I feel about the one at the end. However, the actual story is pretty good. some political intrigue, decent descriptive fight scenes as well as gruesome scenes, although I was actually hoping for more ingenuity during some of the fights. Anyway, the voice actors are doing a pretty good job with what they have been given and definitely don't make it boring.

Historia
Sebastian Frost’s most recent memory was waking up in a field naked, in a body that wasn’t his own, in a world that definitely wasn’t his own, and three stunning pointy-eared women staring right at him. He also remembered hair as white as starlight, eyes like amethysts, and the name Shalia. Fortunately, it was the right name to know. Shalia was the elves’ goddess, and that made him her herald.

entertaining
Revisado: 02-21-23
a lot of descriptive sex, some interesting fighting, and a mildly intriguing combat system. plot develops at a decent pace, but don't expect extensive character development in this story. There are a lot of tangents that lead to more sex. So, if that throws you off or is a negative for you. you definitely should not start listening to or reading this. The voice actors did pretty good jobs. The author could be a little more imaginative with the phrases they use during sex as F*** is used a little excessively.
Just a little extra thought: The treatment of the demihumans by the locals is pretty bad, which leaves the MC quite angry and confused as he doesn't understand the prejudice and subjugation of them or how the humans of this world think of them as little more than livestock and animals. I follow the principle of if they have achieved sentience on the same level. How can they be less than yourself? Expect to hear some pretty bad expectations the demihumans have for the MC for being human in the most mundane of interactions.

potential is there
Revisado: 02-18-23
MC voice actor needs to stop being monotonous with his voice and show genuine inflection in his voice and sound like he's reacting to things. Other voice actors were subpar like the voice of Sarah. The story had some interesting bits, but the system was tedious and honestly made vampires seem pathetic. Also, many things develop too quickly and others too slowly. It simply couldn't decide how to pace the story. The climax was extremely anticlimactic as well. Has potential, but the first book/audible just made it so I will probably not move on to the 2nd book unless I get bored and haven't found a good series to listen to or I finish several more and just happen to continue a year or more later.

Historia
Years ago, Heart’s Eye, a school built on top of a nexus point, was attacked and captured by a necromancer. The nexus point was snuffed out, the handful of survivors forced to flee, and the once great school turned into a forward base for a necromantic invasion. All seemed lost, until Emily killed the necromancer and retook the school. Now, she intends to lay the building blocks for a university, a place where magical knowledge and mundane technology are brought together for the benefit of all. But dark secrets lie within the shadowed school.

much better
Revisado: 04-12-22
first half is boring, but it gets pretty good in the last half as they really start to unravel what was going on with the school among other things. Author could have done more and really had a lot of opportunities to make it spectacular, but never did. however, it was still good. She should have brought more to the table on what she wanted for the university and possible experimentation in the 1st half of the book to avoid making it dull, but I will take what I got. 7/10 good to listen to once.

completely unnecessary
Revisado: 04-07-22
story was more crap. That's 2 books in a row. this was slightly better, but quite literally missed every single opportunity to bring back what we enjoyed about the series like spellcrafting mixed with science. hell, even the lesson she was supposed to learn seems lost mere moments after she told herself she would learn from it. There are only a few interesting parts within the book which is the only reason it gets 2 stars instead of 1 like the previous book. I am really worried that the rest of these books are going to miss the mark on what made people start reading or listening in the 1st place, but I have already bought up to book 23.

adjusted review
Revisado: 03-24-22
it was a disgrace to the characters and spell system you created. force punch, fireball, curse, hex rinse repeat with some variant overpowered version. forget Emily's ingenuity in combining science with magic. allude to nuke spell that will never be used on repeat. explain the kings skills with magic being impressive because he had so little to work with before and then make him another cheap antagonist necromancer. Forget the spells Emily was coming up with in previous war with necromancer that could be used in a civil war setting. Character development went 1 step forward in maturity 10 steps backwards in intelligence and ability. Where is the attention to detail you had during her battle with that dueling champion assassin? I am sorry, but every digital copy, audible, and physical copy of this book should be destroyed. frustratingly uneventful and serious lack of character development. This was Alyssa's battle more so than Emily's, but she was a static character the entire book.
