Historia
The Serenity crew head to Yell City, one of the settlements on Abel, a moon in the Rim. Their job: track down the killers of a local lawyer shot dead in the streets by a local gang. Their client is Annie Roberts, the eighteen-year-old daughter of the murdered man. Lucky for them, Annie Roberts is more than capable of handling herself. Unlucky for them, the job is lot more complicated than they at first think it is. Annie’s father is not just the victim of local gang violence but also the target of some powerful men.

Worst of them by far. Couldn't even finish.
Revisado: 12-17-24
The narrator they brought in for this story's new character is pretty awful. I tried to let it play out and see where things went thinking it would be interesting at least to hear her and the narrator for the other characters go back and forth. Unfortunately, in chapter 3 she starts narrating the Malcolm Reynolds parts too and that was just a bridge too far for me. Not only that, the new character's personality is terrible and grating. Skip this one.

Historia
In the heart of the South Pacific lies Point Nemo, the most desolate and remote place on Earth. At its core is a dead zone, devoid of life, where government agencies crash their obsolete satellites and space stations, confident they won't harm a soul. When the International Space Station suffers a catastrophic failure and plummets through the atmosphere, it's here that Mission Specialist Julie Rohr, an astrobiologist studying living space dust called xylem, finds herself marooned. Julie's only hope for rescue lies in the hands of her estranged father, Dr. Finn Maddern, a renowned mycologist.

Historia
The Troubles. A quaint name for a horrific period in the galaxy's history. A period whose atrocities were superseded only by the terror of the Savage Wars that had come before. Almost no corner of the galaxy was spared a taste of terrible war, cutthroat intrigue…and remorseless death. In the aftermath, this battered galaxy now longs for peace and stability. The Republic, now reformed, seeks to govern by the rule of law. But no matter how sincere the reform, how earnest and well-meaning the ruler, some worlds refuse to place their destiny in the hands of others. Ever again.

Decent prequel story with a terrible narrator.
Revisado: 05-30-24
The story was decent but we didn't get into anything new. Just a retelling of a story we were to glean from the previous books. It's cool that Fords transition to Wraith is being fully flushed out, but I'd prefer to get an altogether new story. Still, the writing remains top notch.
That being said, the new narrator is terrible. Unfortunately we're back mispronouncing names and places, like the last time someone tried to fill in for R.C. Bray. Only this time it's worse because this new guy seems to struggle just reading aloud in general. As a result, every character speach in this slow pace by saying 3 words, pausing and saying another 3 words and so on. As much as I'd like to see Garrett return to the story, I don't want to listen to this guy butcher his character. It's bad enough to hear him do Keel. So that's annoying enough to listen to for a whole book. What's made me decide that I absolutely WILL NOT buy another entry of this series if they continue with this narrator is the god awful way he does the voice of Wraith. Imagine and elderly Jewish man from New York plugging his nose and then doing an impression of a robot. It's just so stupid, it'd actually be funny if he wasn't ruining the experience of listening to one of my favorite series. It's disappointing to say the least but I'm hoping this was a one off and they bring back Bray. If not, I'll be reading the rest of the story the old fashioned way.

Surprisingly boring. Returned.
Revisado: 03-29-24
I'm genuinely surprised by how boring this story is and I don't know who's more bored, me listening to it or Ray Porter narrating it. I like a lot of work by Ford. I just finished his latest entry to the Wasteland series. I also enjoy Ray Porter as the many Bobs in the Bobiverse. This one just misses the mark. Porter literally sounds like he rather be doing anything else and the story is just really bland. It keeps jumping from one person to the other, all of their stories just seeming to go nowhere. It's easy to get bored and lose track of who's perspective you're on. Definitely not worth a credit imo.

Historia
In the process of searching for Pinch, a long-lost mythic figure who has attained a talismanic status, Gibs has resorted to making a living doing contract work with his friend Alan, the young man who followed him out of the Wyoming commune. Hired by a family as escorts on a cross-country trip to Texas, they are ambushed by a group of raiders. The family is captured, children and all, and Gibs and Alan are left behind with only some pistols, a handful of bullets between them, and no food or water to speak of.

One of best books audible has to offer.
Revisado: 07-08-23
I don't mean in this Commune series. I mean one of the best you can find on audible. Period. The story is gripping and compelling from beginning to end. The characters are masterfully done and the dialog is excellent. Honestly, the only thing I didn't like about this story is that it ended. I think that people that are leaving bad reviews because Gibbs was too emotional and showing too much character development are simply too dense to appreciate his journey and would be better served enjoying a coloring book.
R.C. Bray did an amazing job as ever.

Historia
Living off the land and adapting to a changing environment takes a special individual with the unique skills, training, and determination necessary to survive. Gus Berry is not that individual. The former house painter barely made it out of Annapolis as its population underwent a violent transformation, leaving everyone he knew or loved dead—or undead. Now, Gus needs food and booze, weapons and armor, clothing that fits, and above all, toilet paper, preferably two-ply.

Worst in the series.
Revisado: 05-28-23
I've listened to all the mountain man books and short stories. This is by far the worst of the bunch. This book was not at all necessary for the series nor did it give us any more depth to Gus that the other entries didn't provide. Just multiple chapters about Gus taking a shit. Give me a break. If this is all the author can put forth to fill pages these days, I'm not very excited about Skull Road. And I promise if we get another entire chapter dedicated to another bowel movement, I'm going to return it for a refund.

It's just not good. Too much time out into describing pointless nonsense and not enough actually plot. A lot of fluff and very little substance with no pay off. I could go on but this book has stolen enough of my time as it is.

Historia
It's 2526. It has been almost a year since humanity engaged in its destructive first contact with a theocratic military alliance of alien races known as the Covenant. Now, the hostilities have led to open war, and the United Nations Space Command understands virtually nothing about its new enemy. The UNSC’s only hope lies with the Spartans: enhanced super-soldiers trained from childhood via a clandestine black-ops project to be living weapons. But not everyone wants the Spartans to succeed.

Worst Halo Novel yet.
Revisado: 09-20-18
Yet another awful halo story that only focuses on the Spartans age instead of the war against the covenant. Not to mention all the glaring continuity errors. To top it off, it's narrated by Scott Brick who delivers another terrible performance. Every character sounds exactly the same and his delivery is the worst I've heard on any audio book. They need to bring back Eric Nylund and have R.C. Bray do the narration on the next one.

Does absolutely nothing to advance the story.
Revisado: 08-12-16
This entire book could have been easily condensed and added to the next book in the series. On its own it does nothing at all to advance the story of the Arisen series. Everything is more or less as it was at the end of the book as it was at the start. Considering how book 8.5 ended this is especially disappointing.
R.C. does an amazing job as usual.
