Historia
Suburbia. Shady, tree-lined streets; well-tended lawns; and cozy homes. A nice, quiet place to grow up. Unless you are teenage Meg or her crippled sister, Susan. On a dead-end street, in the dark, damp basement of the Chandler house, Meg and Susan are left captive to the savage whims and rages of a distant aunt who is rapidly descending into madness. It is a madness that infects all three of her sons and finally the entire neighborhood. Only one troubled boy stands hesitantly between Meg and Susan and their cruel, torturous deaths.

Best Book I Didn't Want to Read
Revisado: 01-03-24
Sad, heavy. I went in blind and realized about halfway through that it was inspired by real events that I knew about, then it just kept getting worse from there. I recommend it to anybody that would want to read this kind of stuff in the first place, like me.

Found out about this book because the guy who wrote it served with my husband awhile back. I really enjoyed this story. it was fun and interesting, and went places I wasn't expecting. I'd read more by this author.

Historia
Nicholas, a would-be poet, and Nakota, his feral lover, discover a strange hole in the storage room floor down the hall - "Black. Pure black and the sense of pulsation, especially when you look at it too closely, the sense of something not living but alive." It begins with curiosity, a joke - the Funhole down the hall. But then the experiments begin. "Wouldn't it be wild to go down there?" says Nakota. Nicholas says "We're not." But they're not in control, not from the first moment, as those experiments lead to obsession, violence, and a very final transformation.

The performance was fantastic, the story was a dreadful descent into madness. Would absolutely recommend it, but I have no idea how to describe it.

I don't know if the term "page-turner" applies to an audiobook, but that's what this was. I enjoyed the characters, the plot kept me interested, and the ending was satisfying.

Pretty much the title. Book is great. People seem divided on the performance, but I think it's really appropriate and I enjoyed it. Either way, maybe listen to the sample first to make sure it's for you.

Historia
Humans have kept honey bees in hives for millennia, yet only in recent decades have biologists begun to investigate how these industrious insects live in the wild. The Lives of Bees is Thomas Seeley’s captivating story of what scientists are learning about the behavior, social life, and survival strategies of honey bees living outside the beekeeper’s hive - and how wild honey bees may hold the key to reversing the alarming die-off of the planet’s managed honey bee populations.

Wish I had access to the graphs
Revisado: 09-26-22
This is not a criticism of the actual book. That was great. I would really enjoy access to the graphs, charts, and other data visualizations in the book. It's really hard to understand that information without any sort of visual aid.
